The death of Coppell, Texas Mayor Jayne Peters has been ruled a suicide, while her daughter’s death has been ruled a homicide. According to CNN, although police are still wrapping up their investigation by they believe Jayne Peters, 55, shot and killed her daughter before turning the gun on herself. Both died of gunshot wounds to the head and neck areas.
Police have also revealed that they found four notes; one on the outside of the house and three on the inside. The note on the outside of the house was found in an envelope along with a house key and let officers know what they would find inside. The notes inside the house provided no motive for this tragedy but instead were instructions on various things such as how to care for the family pets.
Jayne Peters was elected Mayor of Coppell last year. Her daughter, Mary Corinne Peters, 19, was entering her freshman year at University of Texas this fall.
So much tragedy for this family. The article also said that her husband died of cancer in 2008. I wonder if she just never got over her grief and didn’t want to leave her daughter orphaned so she took her life too.
