In 2006 the Democratic Party won a majority in the House and pulled ahead of the Republicans by one seat in the Senate. In 2008 the Democrats increased their majority in the House and took firm control of the Senate. Now we are approaching the 2010 elections and the Democrats have a problem. Historically it has always been harder for the Party in power to garner as much enthusiasm from their voter base as it is for the Party out of power. And it doesn’t help when you have numb skulls like Press Secretary Robert Gibbs saying things like “I think there's no doubt there are enough seats (in the House of Representatives) in play that could cause Republicans to gain control." Gibbs remark reopens House v. Senate wounds
This year the polls indicate that indeed voter enthusiasm among Republican voters is greater than that of Democrats. Therefore, any Democrats who believe that holding on to the majority is a foregone conclusion needs to wake up and smell the coffee.
Republicans are lying through their collective teeth about how the stimulus is doing. They are constantly spewing out lies about how Obama and the Democrats are destroying our country with their “socialist agenda.†And the brain dead media keeps feeding the fire by lending credence to Republican lies for nothing more than ratings.
Therefore, for any Democrats, Independents, or even Republicans that voted for Obama, lets go over the reasons Republicans must NOT be allowed to lead this nation again.
1. War… Despite anything they say, lately Republicans seem to believe our nation should remain in a constant state of war. I have no doubt that had we elected McCain to the presidency, we would not be seeing the troop draw down in Iraq occurring now. The situation in Afghanistan would still be where it was when Bush was there. And I have no doubt we would be involved in a third war with Iran. Republicans are war mongers. But it’s not patriotism or love of country that drives that attitude. What drives it is the money influence of the military industrial complex. What’s truly ironic though is that it was a Republican President, (Dwight D. Eisenhower) that warned us about this.
2. Economics… Right after their defeat in 2008, many Republicans issued statements to the effect that they should learn from the experience and make the appropriate changes. Unfortunately that emotion didn’t last long. Today Republicans are right back to the tax cuts for the wealthy and de-regulation agenda. Mitch McConnell said there was no evidence that the Bush tax cuts caused a reduction in revenues. Yet the congressional budget office reported that the Bush tax cuts caused an increase to the deficit of over 500 billion dollars. Combined with the cost of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, these make up over half our nations annual deficit. But now they are no longer the majority, Republicans have suddenly become deficit hawks. Arizona Senator Kyle actually said that he believed that deficits under the Republican agenda were ok, but under the Democratic agenda they are bad. The hypocrisy of it is astonishing.
3. Compassion… Right now our nation is experiencing the worst unemployment rates in decades. That means that millions of Americans are in big trouble and hurting badly. Yet Republicans are blocking the passage of legislation to extend benefits. They apparently believe that reducing the deficit is more important than people. And as usual they justify their actions by demonizing the recipients of these benefits. Republicans To Unemployed: Why Won't You All Just Get Some Jobs Already?…
Conclusion
If Republicans are allowed to regain control of either or both Houses in congress, not only will they reverse the progress the Democrats have made over an astonishing short period of time, we could see the economic collapse that was predicted in the summer of 2008. How does unemployment rates of 25 or 30 percent sound folks.
We Democrats must not allow ourselves to become complacent. The election in November is not “in the bag†folks. If we don’t come out and vote with the same enthusiasm as we did when we elected Obama, we’ll have to watch our nation fall into even more chaos and economic ruin than before the Democrats took power.
VOTE DEMOCRAT IN NOVEMBER

While I want to see the Congressional majority remain blue, I'd like to see the GOP pick up enough seats to light a fire under the pants of Congress and the administration to deal and resolve voters' issues promptly.
Nobody in this current government should sit back and crow- these are solemn and serious times.
But I still think it's a worthy risk, and frankly, the push might be necassary.
The GOP still lives by that warped thinking. Only this time, the Black leader is far smarter and far superior and the only way to stop him is to sabatoge him and his party.
Won't work! We need to get rid of the philibuster and take that weapon away. Then what will they have? Only lies, bribes and collusion. And we have truth and integrity on our side. We know they have won with those weapons, but, hopefully, never again.
The American people have seen what socialism up close ow. You can say all you want that "the republicans call Obama a socialist" but your wrong. He IS A socialist. All you need are eyes to see it.
I dont know why you guys dont just admit it.
You can defend him all day long, but he is what he is.
Unfortunately for you, America doesnt like socialism (yes I know the police dept and fire depts are socialist, blah, blah, blah).
Until you get your 20 million illegals (and then their 20 million familiy members as voters), the dems are in trouble for a long time coming.
Deep down, you know it, and so do the dem pols.
Far too partisan currently to work together.
The republicans might be bad, but at least they are giving lip service to cutting spending. The dems are pretending there isnt even a problem.
Well, America is paying massively for its valid bills (infrastructure, needed social programs, etc). Thats like a mortgage. It costs a bunch of money, but you have your job to pay for it and its necessary.
Add on top of that SS, Medicare, now Obamacare and its three more major bills we cant afford.
The wars are short term debts - these social programs are never ending and continue to increase in cost, year after year after year.
Its time they were cut in a big way.
You sir, or ma'am... are a coward!!!
I'm not going to vote Democrat because of a name.
I'm not going to vote Republican because of hte party, and I want Democrats to lose control.
If a Decomcrat candidate came along that I could support and believe in, I would vote that. If an independent came along that I could support and believe in I would vote that.
If there are no candidates that I can support or believe in, I will write in a vote.
I agree spending needs to be cut. I agree that these bailouts have been a disaster. But its time to stop blaming, and start fixing. Obama said we could spend our way out of this recession, and so far nothing has happened. We've spent ourselves deper in the recession, and there is no end in sight.
I'm going to say this.
Vote for the candidate not the party. Not because someone is black or white, not the race, not the gender. Vote the person, and what he/she stands for. Someone you can believe in.
Put the party aside and vote for who you believe will represent you.
I for one do not think the Senate, the House, or the President, are representing the U.S very well at all, and I say vote them out.
Mooch
The Dems have been stupid enough not to call the GOP on their garbage in the past; it looks like they're finally waking up to the fact that "all it takes for evil to prosper is for good men to do nothing".
So, Mooch, if you really want to live in the country the Republicans want, move to Mexico! There, the richest wallow in money while everyone else sleeps in a cardboard box.
The only thing that concerns me is giving one party too much power.
The POTUS regardless of his party should represent the whole US not just the people that voted for him.
What I would love to see is a group of lawmakers who can work together from both parties.
I dont totally agree with the Dems nor the Repubs.
There should be more balance and give and take then we have now.
Bush was bad enough, but this guy is a joke.
I remeber him saying he was going to go over the budget with a fine tooth comb? Apparently, he used James Carville's comb.
I guess I misunderstood. I didnt know going over something with a fine tooth comb meant adding trillions of dollars in spending.
No one in Washington right now is gutsy enough to mention the possibility of cutting spending.
If Dad (or Mom) loses their job, the family has to tighten its collective belt until the parent finds a new job - but the GOP wants the American "family" to get by on no job at all while still handing out boatloads of cash!
Where is the logic of "we don't have enough money -- let's cut revenue"? Yet braindead neocons continually rant that the solution to the deficit is more tax cuts!
I grew up in a country that had built the interstate highway system and was on its way to the moon. Kids could join the all-city orchestra or band regardless of their family's income, because their schools supplied the necessary instruments. Libraries were in neighborhoods all over town and stayed open 6 days a week. Public pools were free, and even gave free swimming lessions. All this was possible because the tax rate on the highest earners was about 90%. Yet the present-day Republicant's (who caused the current situation with their insistance that government is evil and taxes should be low or non-existant)want to tell you they are the ones who can give us back the America I grew up in. Get real.
Ok, and joblessness has increased two percent since Obama's stimulus.
What, exactly are you on? And is it available anywhere?
Fine, find it curious.
What happened last year, two years ago, and ten years ago doesnt matter today or tomorrow.
Its time to cut spending. Period.
You might find it curious that the republicans are in favor of it now, but the dems arent even in favor of it now.
Its like the repubs were playing with fire and then set the house on fire. And now they say - ok enough playing with fire. And you criticize them for realizing it too late.
But, as the house is burning, the dems have continued playing with fire and have no plans on stopping. In fact, they are having "play with fire" parties and inviting everyone they know.
And all you can do is find the repubs "curious".
You, my friend, are bad for this country because yuo are so partisan you are blind.
Or, you are looking out for your own interests (and I dont criticize that), and are of the 1/2 the population that pays no taxes - so you live off of mine.
Krugman I find to be spot-on here.
I'm for replacing Congresspeople who will not work with others with new folks who will. I am willing to accept, if an incumbant wants to retain their seat, a pledge to work in a bipartisan manner if I've not received one before ... but if there was one hollow promise, I won't listen to a second.
I guess the point is -- these people are not supposed to be in Washington to represent themselves, they are supposed to represent the people and needs of their district. I actively participated in the election of my current Congressman because he said he would represent me and he is. He unseated someone who wasn't. The current Congressman has made overtures across the aisle -- the previous one refused to do that. By the way, the current one is Dem. -- but it is his performance that is winning me over and he first got his seat when the GOP was majority.
I think it's ironic that what could be called the most effective president we've had since FDR is most likely the most hated by his opposition.
Bi-partisanship is a two-way street.
... the job doesn't pay as much as the unemployment benefit does."
Considering how little unemployment does pay, gee I wonder why people wouldn't want a job that pays LESS. Hmm...food, mortgage/rent, medical expenses, etc. might be a consideration.
So the Republican party is split and in disarray. You could see this split emerge at the 2008 Republican convention. What ultimately became the Teabaggers movement held their own convention down the road. Remember that? Today, Republicans are only unified in their disdain for Michael Steele. So while the liberal wing of the Republican party is fired up, the religious right is pissed off. The religious right are loosing power in the party to the socially liberal and they know it. There are evangelical leaders now calling for an end to donations to the Republican party. I can't ever remember that happening before. If the religious right doesn't support the Republican's in November, they don't have a chance of taking back congress..
As far as Steele goes, he's just a little mosquito. All he needs is a good swat. He'll be gone by the end of the year. The religious right will hang on til the bitter end. They have no other place to go.
A very high percentage of people think that Obama is dangerous to the country and is flat out a socialist.
Barring a major unseen event on the scale of a 9/11 he has no shot whatoever of a second term (unless of course he gets amnesty and pulls in another 20-30 million votes from minorities).
He has lost independents and he has lost any of the republicans that he fooled or just wanted to spite the party for nominating McCain. He will not get them back. This isnt a matter of "its the economy stupid" and if it gets better by '12 they will be in his corner again.
That ship has sailed. He has lost them forever. They believe he is dangerous and doesnt have the countries best interest at heart.
Im not saying its true, but a very high number of Americans believe it in their heart. He is through.
You are talking about the right-wingers and tea-baggers, not the general population. Been watching too much FOX and listening to too much Rush, haven't you?
Did you decry Republican Socialism when Medicare Part D was enacted?
Did you worry about deficits when we entered into two wars that were completely unfunded (and continue to be after all of these years)?
Did you get hot about cutting revenue while making no spending offsets that would allow the deficit to not explode?
You neocons love to spout that bilge, without a shred of evidence. Indeed, you contnue to rant despite evidence to the contrary! But your attitude can't possibly be based on racism - like the elevated levels of lead in a nearby mining district can't possibly be the result of said mining!
>> dangerous to the country and is flat out a socialist.
I'd have to say that anyone that thinks Obama is a
socialist is a danger to the country.
Im just sayin.
So, problem is, the "independents" are sick and tired of the Obama/Pelosi/Reid Regime.
IMHO the real problem is that Both Sides have the game down cold - neither side does what they say they will do when they out of power (the old "Just give us another chance and we'll do the right thing" b.s.).
And the voters just ping-pong the two Parties back and forth - we put in the Republicans they give us Medicare Part D (unfunded), Two Wars (unfunded) and then complain about deficits when they are out of power.
The Democrats give us something call health care reform but it is a sad shadow of what they promised when they were in the minority.
It really just a joke - and both Parties know that the joke is on the average person just trying to get by...
1/3 are loyal Rs. They will vote R all the time. 1/3 are loyal Ds. The other 1/3 are loyal AMERICANS. They put America and its values above party.
Thos 1/3 independents are gone, forever. Obama has violated their trust because he has shown himself to be anti-American. He will not - ever - get them back as voters.
Ok - what is a Loyal American?
You define that as "put America and its values above party." - what the heck does that mean?
A simple example - when you say "values" do you mean like the government staying out of the lives of "Individuals" - or do you mean like the government telling "Individuals" who they can and cannot marry?
One is Freedom the other is Tyranny - but I guess we all have our views on "Values"...
The GOP is supposed to be the party of "small government"-- guess that means "small enough to fit into their neighbors' bedrooms". Or their uteri.
Good post, my issue is that if the Democrats don't grow some spine and stop trying to get along with the Party of No they will never create the jobs and regulate the banksters, big oil, etc. enough to keep the economy from sliding back off the cliff.
The Democrats just always look so weak. They are always trying to just "win over" a few Republicans - they sacrifice so much in their bills to get a Republican to say "I'll vote for it" - time after time - they get a Republican who says "Maybe" - the Democrats change things then at vote time the Republican say "Sorry" - it makes the Democrats look pathetic.
Its like when Lucy pulls the football away while Charlie Brown goes to kick it - every time and they never learn.
While the Republicans have a lot of problems and I likely won't vote for who the Republican Party is now - Americans don't like "weakness" and the Democrats just look weak and they look they are always seeking Republican approval.
I would vote for a Moderate Republican (those are a rare commodity these days) and I would not view a Republican take-over of the House and or Senate as a bad thing for Obama - in fact it might help him as the Republicans would then "own" the problems as well as Obama and would not be able to just hurl stones - they would have to step up and actually work on things before the next election.
I agree that the Republicans aren't going to regain the majority this year - and if the Democrats keep going the way they are (trying appease Republican) - then yes, in 2012 I believe the Congress and White House will most likely be in the control of the Republican Party.
My preferred system is a split in D.C. - where both Parties have control of at least something - that way neither Party can say "We aren't in power its all them" - so deals can be struck instead of the minority Party just being able to say "no" to everything.
Great post Devin!
The philosophy of tax cuts is that we - the people - get to choose what to do with our own money. If given more, we might: pay down bills, start a business, hire a new employee, buy something retail, make an investment in the stock market or real estate, etc.
The point is that YOU decide how to spend more of the money YOU work hard for.
That is a stimulus.
The stimulus as Obama signed TAKES more of your money and spends it on what politians want. And, as we have seen, it caused unemploytment to go UP 2%.
Imagine, if instead of taking more of our tax money the trillion(s) spent on stimulus was used to create a "tax free year" (or half year, whatever it works out to) for the middle class? Imagine if you had to pay no income tax all year long (if you are in the 1/2 of the US that is currently leaching off of others you dont pay anyway... right Devin)
Me personally, I make 100k and my wife makes 70k ( we live in a suburb of Manhattan so that makes us a struggling family in need of that second income)
But that means we pay about 50k in taxes.
Now, what would YOU do with 50k in extra money? Dont you think the economy would have been stimulated?
People would buy cars, go on vacations, fix up their houses, start businesses, etc.
All of this would CREATE JOBS!!!!!!!
WHERE ARE THE JOBS?!?!?!?!?
More jobs, means more people paying taxes - less people on umemployment.
How are you people so blind?
First of all If you and your wife made $170,000 then your income taxes went down under Obama's Stimulus Package. And all Bush's tax cuts did was increase the deficit by over half a trillion dollors. And what did the recipients of those tax cuts do with all that money??? Nothing, that's what. Nothing but play who's got the most money.
Everything you espouse is what put this country in the mess it's in. And if you want to know where the jobs are, then ask corporate America. They have been experiencing unprecedented profits but still refuse to start hiring. And the reason is because they're convinced that if they hold out until 2012, then the people will take their anger out on the Dems. But it ain't gonna work. The Dems are going to work right now to make sure the people know who is holding up jobs... And That's the Republicans and the wealthy they truly represent.
But even with that the failure is one of reality - the reality is that when revenue decreases (for any reason) and corresponding cuts are not made in spending you end up in a deficit - which is what Bush and the Republicans put us in during good times when they should have been building up a surplus for the next (inevitable) recession.
As for jobs - please recall that just about 18-24 months ago we were losing about 750,000 jobs every month - we are now at parity and in the private sector actually gaining months - so when one includes the number of jobs not being lost we are +750,000 jobs every month from where we were when Bush left office and shortly thereafter.
Also, as I am sure you are aware - unemployment is a lagging economic indicator and that after we start pulling out of the recessions (as many believe we already are) that unemployment can actually go up due to the way unemployment is calculated - and that is it does not take into account people who give up looking for work - so as the economic climate gets better and people start looking for work who previously had given up - it actually increases the unemployment rate - but this means that more people are viewing the employment situation as improving and this indicator is actually one of the last ones that turns around.
If that was true - why did we go into a recession under the Bush Administration after taxes had been lowered and all of those jobs were lost?
You might want to dumb it down a bit. Folks on the Right have a great deal of difficulty understanding things like facts.
But neocons like libertyjunkie keep on trying to rewrite or reinvent history to fit their worldview - what do they care whether reality is any different from their prejudices? If they listened to anything but Fixed News, they might know that the Beaver Cleaver lifestyle no longer exists. For far too many Americans, it never did.
Thanks for posting this to 4 US, World News & Opinions.
things will be changing and by October it will be a different pictureDevin, if they don't reduce the deficit, you have no idea how bad it can/will get, so most common sense economists agree with "blocking the passage of legislation to extend benefits. They apparently believe that reducing the deficit is more important than people".
Sigh...
Yankees owner George Steinbrenner died last week, leaving a fortune estimated at $1.1 billion. He is the fourth billionaire to die this year - the only year since 1916 when there has not been a federal estate tax (it's currently scheduled to return in 2011). So even if the Yankees don't repeat as World Series champs, it's a very profitable year for the Steinbrenner family...
Probably kissing several hundred million in estate tax revenue good-bye since it has not phased back in yet ... there is ZERO tax on this.
George Steinbrenner recently died - and because of a tax change in effect this year - his family will save approximately $500 million in federal estate taxes. Now, I know that you would applaud this - but...
We currently do not take in enough revenue to cover our spending.
Therefore - that $500m will have be be made up in one of two ways:
1) We sell more debt to China and Japan.
2) Some other (most likely less wealthy Americans) will see taxes increase.
3) Or, we cut spending - but we all know that neither the Conservatives nor Democrats will really cut spending - since we live in a free country both sides will have to accept some cuts in what they believe is "off-limits" so....
We will go further into debt to make sure that some very, very wealthy people say wealthier...
I am not saying that is bad or good - just saying that there is no free lunch - and you and I will be paying the interest on that additional debt that the Steinbrenner got to keep (I am certain that the Steinbrenner will thank you) :-)
According to economists, the Republican move to block unemployment extensions is already costing the economy at the rate of $50 billion per year. The Republican Party, which, despite all the enthusiasm, is a fractured and dangerous entity today. Its newly found austerity threatens to tumble us into a double dip which will be horrendous, since the Fed is limited on what more it can do to stimulate the economy, as is the government.
Incidentally, the Fed is just now waking up to the fact that the situation is eroding much faster than it realized. It has significantly contributed to the problem by creating a program last December under which banks can lend money to the Fed at a favorable interest rate. The move was inspired by the Fed's long-term obsessive fear of inflation and the idea was to siphon money out of the economy. As a result, this has further discouraged banks from private lending. The institutions can literally borrow money from the Fed at zero and near zero interest rates and lend it back to the Fed at a profit. This crap has to stop. The Fed must drastically lower the rate it pays the banks.
But, to get back to the Republicans, should they obtain a fillibuster-proof majority, their austerity would disappear like money into a politician's pocket. Restoring the tax cuts and overturning some of the newly passed legislation could add trillions to the national debt that is now being projected to hit $20 trillion before 2020.
What scares me is that there is an amazing confluence of unfortunate trends coming together right now, and a Republican sweep would fit in with that scenario quite well.
Frankly, I'm hoping that all this chatter about racism will motivate the black community to get out the vote, and that could have an enormous impact.
"....chatter about racism...." is interesting in that we wll sleep with anyone to get what we want. I sense you say that with some reservation. Reminds me of the Germans in WW2. The SS took anyone who could breathe because they need large numbers for killing.
How despicable!
Unfortunately, I rarely find any.
There's only a handful like that in the Republican party as well.
Are you all tired of voting for the duopoly party system?
The one that has the most name recognition and electability that passes the test is Ron Paul.
**ticking of a timer**
Republicans - tax cuts to the wealthy at the cost of the average american - (if the cuts are to continue they will continue to balloon the deficit by 500 billion over the next decade), allowing corporations to evade taxes - hmm, not my idea of a winner
Democrats - healthcare reform - done, financial reform - done. Now if the Senate would pull it's collective heads out of their asses we may get more done.
TheDemocrats still need to grow a pair (They need more people like Alan Grayson in both houses - he's my choice for POTUS in 2012 or 2016), but I guess they're better than allowing the corporatist fascicts get control.
2. Economics = Need republicans say more, with Obama printing more money than 50 generations can repay.
3. Unemployment = Yeah Obama's administration has seen more immigrants pass the Statue of Liberty than even she can smile at, she looks confused by the shere numbers of people comming in to this country. So many peole have come to this country this year that could have filled the country of Lithuania. Need republicans say more no your post does just fine for us.
a) Pull out right now.
b) Stay and Continue Deficit Spending on it.
c) Stay and implement a War Tax to pay for it in real time
2) Economics - 90% of the current deficit was run up by the Bush Administration and during that time 6 out of the 8 years the Republicans held the Congress so....
3) Unemployment - under Obama we have gone from Losing 750,000 jobs a month to actually starting to move back into positive territory in the private sector.
As for immigration - I would rather have educated immigrants than native born people who throw away 13 years of free education and then complain because they can't compete against illiterate, non-English speaking people who don't even know the culture for low wage jobs - I mean really - how pathetic are people who after 13 years of education, access to low cost community colleges are actually competing for the same jobs that illegal immigrants who have no education, don't speak the language and don't know the culture...
I say let's take a Free Market approach to citizenship - we rank people in this country according to the skills we need - Intelligence, Skills Sets and Ability to Think - among native born, immigrants - legal and illegal - and kick out the people who can't make the cut!!!
Karl just because you respond dosn't make you right, you need to figure that out, when someone responds it's to the article, "Karl" you know the one at the top of this page I hope you read. People if your going to respond then tackle one problem at a time.
Your question was; (what does turning all the Prisons in Iraq mean to you?)
Restate the question, it needs a point...
I'd like to see where you get your "information" from - prefrably some source non-partisan
deficit is bad when unemployment is extended, but good to keep fruitless wars going.
like a conversation I overheard shortly after Viet Nam ended "What we need to bbost the economy is another war!" is what some parents at a party in the 70s were saying!
Doesn't any of that bother you? Pay millions to study the mating habit of some insect but not come up with the money for unemployment?
Open your eyes! Quit blaming the Reps. The Dems are totally in control have a clear majority! WHO"S fault is that if the truly needy don't get helped and the crooked Demcrats get what they personally want instead!
three words - publically financed campaigns.
Do you mean be weary of Beery,
or be wary of Barry? ;-)
Just the facts, Robert.
Yes, there is a lot of criticism and frustration with Obama,
but I don't know that changes anything or will push people
to vote for Sarah Palin?
Your problem is that those pesky little things called facts are not on your side. Reid just pulled ahead of the Nevada crazy lady. Obama's approval rating remains around 50%. A number Bush would have killed for. And every time Republicans open their mouths, the American people cringe at the insaneness of it.
Apologizing to BP? Calling unemployed Americans lazy while voting against extending benefits? Promoting a policy of preventing legislation to create jobs on the premise it will give them the advantage in the upcoming elections? I'm sorry Robert, but if you think folks are not noticing garbage like this, you're even more delusional than I thought.
Your point has missed the point. Remember it's Libs that TAX and SPEND. Big Government is bad Government The Party of "NO" will mend their ways when they return to power. However, your understanding of the TAX structure is lacking. Ask your boss how much of your wages he keeps? Accept an honest answer. Unions and wage pressure has caused Corporations to outsource. High US Corporate taxes force them to make these business decision. When you PUNISH the PRODUCTIVE THEY PRODUCE LESS! It's just basic business and human nature. You should applaud the rich and strive to become like them! That's why America has succeeded. You project failure and Socialism. Bad YOU!!
Your understanding of the political process needs some refreshing. The anger and the discontentment will be reflected by the voters in the voting booth. Those who are Seniors will vote "no" because their retirement lives have been disrupted. The working man will vote "NO" because those promised jobs were "saved" or added Government jobs. The Poor will vote "NO" because they have suffered the most from the draconian hand of the Messiah! Independents will vote "NO" because what they expected and what they got was dramatically different. Finally, the Libs will vote "NO" because Barry didn't live up to his RADICAL facade!. November is the first step in the "One and Out" scenario of Barry!
I do not think the Republicans will be able to unseat Obama as President, unless he resigns after his first term on the basis of not getting done much of anything he said he would and even then i think people will not stand for another Republican President.
Even though I am sharply critical of Obama I would vote for him again over any Republican or Democrat I can see likely to run.
A health care reform bill that eluded the grasp of every other Democratic majority and president that tried.
Saved two of our nation's automobile manufacturers from extinction.
Has put into place plans to end the wars in the Middle East.
Just passed the Wall Street reform bill.
Now I will grant that the Republicans will not see these things as "positive," but compared with what the Republicans did when they controlled the presidency and the congress, Democrats that pound that comparison home to the electorate will do well.
I will vote Democratic for one primary reason—Democrats since FDR have demonstrated more compassion for the working person than the Republican Party ever has.
Sure, both parties are morally corrupt and littered with thieves who line their own pockets. However, the actions of the Republican Party for decade's show they are non-union, do not support worker rights or equal rights for women.
This shows repeatedly when Republicans are in power. They cut taxes for the wealthy while making it more difficult for the working person to survive. Starting with President Reagan, the Republicans robbed from future generations to feed the coffers of corporations and the rich. Both Bushes did the same thing—spent huge amounts of money that the country did not have and most of that money went to corporations like the military industrial complex.
Some Democratic legislation may do the same thing. but Republicans are hell bent on destroying Social Security, Medicare, taking over the schools by having vouchers to feed tax payer money into private schools where brainwashing will take place to insure the Republicans keep fooling enough voters to stay in power while corporations continue to reap huge profits from Republican Rule, support monstrous risks from Wall Street and Banks, and encourage worker abuse as worker rights and unions vanish.
Now that President Obama spends money America doesn't have to support programs to provide support or jobs for workers we hear the Republicans complain and throw fear about is if the world as going to end tomorrow. In fact, if the Republicans were back in power with a Republican President in the White House, they would spend as much or more but that money would go toward corporations. They wouldn't complain then.
A vote for a Republican is a vote for America becoming a third world country where millions are without shelter, medical care, a livable wage, etc, and the gap between the rich and the worker grows wider by the moment. Eventually, America will be back where it was in the 19th century with people living in substandard company housing and owing their body and soul to the company store. That's when we will see the child labor laws abolished and children sold as slaves to factories and mines again since that would provide low labor costs to compete with other third world countries.
So you think third world countries have livable wages eh? Wait and see!
