Actor Ed Norton will not be the Hulk when the Marvel comic movie, the Avengers, comes out, that is for sure. Â Norton, 40 played the Hulk in the 2008 remake of the movie. Â Whether or not the actor was fired, or just declined the role is up for quite a bit of debate and speculation. Â According to a letter from the studio it looks more like he was canned than he chose not to do the role.
"We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in the Avengers," Kevin Feige of Marvel said in a statement. "Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members."
What cast members is the studio talking about? Â Robert Downey, Jr. and Scarlett Johansson, of course! Â The studio is rumored to be looking at Joaquin Phoenix as Norton's replacement for the role of the big green superhero.
Of course, Norton's camp took offense to the public skewering of there client and two time Oscar nominee. Â "This offensive statement...is a purposefully misleading, inappropriate attempt to paint our client in a negative light..." said Norton's representative.
Whatever the reason, whether he was fired or just decided to quit the project, we aren't sure, but he won't be reprising the Hulk this go around. Â Now the real question is whether or not you think that Edward Norton is a quality actor at all?
