The Swiss declared Roman Polanski a free man today after rejecting a U.S. request to extradite him. He is charged with a nasty rape of a 13 year old girl in the U.S. in 1977.
The Swiss blame U.S. authorities for failing to provide confidential testimony about Polanski's sentencing procedure in 1977-1978.
The U.S. tried to get their hands on him for 3 decades. He has spent most of his time in France.
I love his movie Chinatown. But that doesn't mean he should get away with such a nasty crime. Some think it should all be forgotten, though, they think it's all in the past too much now. What do you think?

I saw this on the Miami Herald site this morning.
Yeah, and Wagner was a super creep too, and Handel. But I still listen to their music.
I think that's important...
I wonder, if Polanski goes to a country that might extradite him, if it'll start all over again.
Just because he has managed to elude the American authorities for all these years does not mean it should go away, nor does it mean he didn't continue doing things like this. No matter how talented he is or how much the entertainment community supports his work, he ran.
Although his victim is now grown and doesn't want to go through it, the point is, he is still a wanted criminal.
It is amazing to me that Bernie Madoff did what he did, and destroyed people's lives financially and no one wants to give him a "free" pass because he is an old man. He may be one of the most hated men of our time, and justifiably so. Yet when it comes to Roman Polanski who stole a young girls innocence, something that can never be returned, some people say, "let it go"... Though Bernie had more victims maybe...both men as far as I know have never shown any remorse at their actions, and they did reprehensible things.... and yet so many will say leave Roman Polanski alone.... I doubt they will ever say that about Bernie Madoff...
Should he be returned - well, I guess Switzerland doesn't think so. I do, because he is a predator and he will not change.
