The U.S. National team will have a new look this summer in the World Championships, with every player from the 2008 Olympic team declining an invitation to play. Kobe Bryant of the Lakers has the bad finger that bothered him through most of this past NBA season. And with free agency, players like LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh have had to spend there time getting to know there new cities, or teammates. Deron Williams of the Jazz became the last player to turn down a roster
spot, and thus Team USA will have a new 12 man roster.
Roster spots must be filled by August 26th. So coach Mike Krzyzewski will have to evaluate players quickly to fill the roster in time. Players trying for a spot include, Kevin Durant of Oklahoma, Rajon Rondo from Boston, Robin Lopez of the Nets, Derrick Rose
from the Bulls, Lamar Odom of the World Champion Lakers, and a surprise player, new Knick, Amar'e Stoudemire.
Jerry Colangelo, the USA Basketball's managing director, in an interview with Yahoo Sports, had stated any player declining an invite, without a legitimate reason, would not be considered for the 2012 Olympic team. Colangelo has since backed off that statement. And who could really blame him, with the loss of the star studded lineup of the 2008 team all MIA.
