There will be no "Avengers" movie for actor Ed Norton. The Marvel company recently confirms rumors that Norton won't reprise his role as The Incredible Hulk for the new superhero film. Many are anticipating that the first feature film for the "Avengers" team will include Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hensworth as Thor and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Unfortunately, Ed Norton won't be on the team.
MTV.com reports that Edward Norton had previously mentioned he was open to returning to the Bruce Banner/Hulk role and even playing a villainous Hulk for the Avengers film. He had even recently cleared his movie schedule so he could take on the role for the new superhero flick. However, it appears creative differences are what will have the green monstrous hero re-cast.
According to Hitflix, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige released the following statement regarding the decision to re-cast Hulk for the movie:
"We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in the Avengers," wrote Feige. "Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H, Chris E, Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks."
So it appears that Scarlett Johansson will reprise her character from Iron Man 2 as "Black Widow", making this ensemble cast pretty exciting on paper. Will all of the "Avengers" team players work well together, or will some stars be divas on set and take over the spotlight though?
Avengers is due for a 2011 release and many are expecting to see it unveiled at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con. Stay tuned as news of who will play "The Hulk" and others in the "Avengers" film are announced!
