The Boston Celtics are the Eastern Conference Champions, and they intend to stay there. They are trying to keep the team intact, and they are also adding a little help.
According to the AP, the Celtics are going to sign Jermaine O'Neal.
"We intend to sign him," Ainge told reporters. "Our priorities to start the offseason were obviously Paul, Ray, and to strengthen our center position in light of Perk's injury. Hopefully by tomorrow we'll have these things taken care of and then we can continue working."
Ainge said he thinks Boston remains the team to beat in the East, regardless of who comes out the winner in the LeBron James sweepstakes that was scheduled to end with a televised announcement on Thursday night. James was reportedly leaning toward signing with the Miami Heat, who have already agreed to terms with top free agents Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade.
O’Neal turns 32 this October, and he has been injury prone. He's played with four different teams in his career, most recently with Miami Heat. (Who by the way, had some pretty big signings today!) O’Neal averaged 13.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks last season with the Heat.
The NBA is sure having a huge off season, with many players trading places. It's going to be an exciting new season this fall. The NBA is probably happy to see all this movement, new jersey's to sell!
