Independence Day

I am on a number of sites, and I find it strange that most people refer to this day by its date--July 4, but not its title, Independence Day. Everyone has a July 4, that is just a calendar date.

Excellent question. Reverences are largely all "Fourth of July" in the media.

Are we forgetting what it stands for, other than barbecue and fireworks? Or do we feel we have lost our independence?

For most they've become synonymous. That's not in of itself bad if people realize still the importance of the Day.

That could be. I do find it pretty interchangeable, until I realize that everyone, oppressed or free has a fourth on the July calendar page. It is easier for really little kids to say fourth of July.

Yes it is Independence Day. I just posted a drawing and I didn't even say Independence Day, I used July 4th instead. Shame on me. Thanks for the reminder.

I just went back and edited it and added a foot note that July 4th is "Independence Day" in the United Staes of America.

I know, I hope people do not take it that I am being picky, but we are the country that can claim this day for Independence Day, and we should.

I don't know either. I call it THE 4Th. I never really thought much of it.
