This is my Rat Tail cactus. This plant is over 25 years old. I started it from a pinch off of a friend’s plant and have started many pots of it since then by pinching sections off of my plant. The Rat Tail cactus can grow up to five feet in length, therefore making it an idea choice for a hanging basket. I keep my plant pinched back to about one or two feet in length as I keep it outside and don’t want the wind tearing it to pieces. The Rat Tail cactus is supposed to bloom every year but in all the years I’ve had mine, it has never bloomed. Some say I’m not using the correct fertilizer but I think it’s just a male plant and it’s not in its nature to bloom.
The little red bird house is about ten years old and was given to me by a young friend of mine who made it in Boy Scouts. I keep thinking that I’m going to throw it away but every spring a little sparrow builds a new nest in it and I just keep it where it is. It’s about to fall apart, maybe this year I’ll throw it out and get a new one.
