Most of you that have followed me for any length of time, know that I moved a couple of years ago to Guelph, Ontario. This is a unique city in many ways.
In 1991, Gwen Jacob was arrested for walking in a street in Guelph, Ontario while topless. She was acquitted in 1996 by the Court of Appeal for Ontario on the basis that the act of being topless is not in itself a sexual act or indecent. Since then, the court ruling has been tested and upheld several times.
I've been here for two years now and haven't observed any women taking advantage of their rights...until yesterday!
This is now summer in the Northern Hemisphere (anything above 60F in Canada is considered "summer"). I was out in front of our apartment having a beer with a couple of friends (in Ontario, you can legally drink alcohol outside if there is at least a 3' fence around your area, which we have), when a young lady, probably in her mid-20's, was walking down the other side of our street with no blouse. At first I was quite startled. The last time I witnessed that was when I was in S. Martaan and stumbled onto a topless beach (another story for a later time...) until I remembered that it is perfectly legal here due to Gwen.
More women need to take advantage of their legal rights... :)
