Lady Gaga has released yet another controversial video, this time for her single, Alejandro. In the video Gaga uses religious imagery, a la Madonna and some found it offensive including singer Katy Perry. She took to Twitter to condemn the video saying, "Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke." Didn't Perry and her fiancee Russell Brand make jokes about their flatulence?A little TMI, but oddly romantic.
According to Us Magazine, she is now backtracking saying that she's a huge fan of Lady Gaga. Maybe, but Perry sounded awfully catty. You can't really make comments about a video with someone dressed like a sexy nun and sing about kissing a girl. She told a French radio station, "[People say] I'm a very hypocritical person, 'How do you say that and [sing], 'I Kissed a Girl'? Spirituality and sexuality are two separate things. When you decide to put it into the same subject, it gets interesting for some people."
I have to disagree with Perry, thet are not really all that different. Both are topics that are ruled by a person's personal values. As the daughter of a minister, Perry used her personal morals to condemn Gaga's video because it didn't conform to her views of religion. Others may have found her song I Kissed a Girl to be offensive because of their personal views about sexuality.
Granted I think I've seen Gaga's video before in the form of Madonna's Like a Prayer, but was Perry picking a fight with Lady Gaga for publicity?
