I always attributed the following to him...and then found out that somebody else wrote it:

A very strange bird is a pelican
His beak can hold more than his bellycan
He can hold in his beak
Enough food for a week
And I don't see how in the Hellican.

I've adored Ogden Nash since I was a kid....one of my favorites records was (and still is) St Saen's 'Carnival of the Animals' with Basil Rathbone reading Nash's verses about each animal.

Um, I thought of it last night as I was reading some of Nash's poems.
He did write one of the shortest poems ever written. It's titled "The Bronx". It goes like this:

Ready?

Here:


The Bronx,
No thonx.

See? Brevity. And levity. I ran across some letters written by British soldiers back home during WWII in which they cited Nash's poems as being critical to keeping their spirits up. Humor really does have a significant power over the human spirit, Charles.
