Ikea recalls blinds

Blinds are being recalled by Ikea due to risk of strangulation. Do they make blinds differently now or do they have new rules? I don't seem to remember blinds causing this much trouble before.....

Depends how they are hung, I think. The real issue is that the cord will hold a child's weight instead of 'breaking'. Using velcro to hold them up is a better option as per this tutorial at easyproblinds and elsewhere. This way, they give way under tension.

You're right. I know my mom had blinds at the windows, but I don't ever remember even thinking about playing with them....
