Abby Sunderland the 16 year old girl from California sent two manual distress signals before losing contact. Abby Sunderland was trying to be the youngest person to sail around the world solo, and now it is feared she is lost at sea as bad weather was on her.
Abby was in the southern Indian Ocean when bad weather hit and she lost contact with her family on Thursday and hasn't been heard from since.
After her distress signal was set off, the nearest ship was 400 miles away.
According to the New York Post, Sunderland had an orange and yellow racing yacht that had a refrigerator, food, and water making device to help her survive. Abby Sunderland left Maria Del rey, California on January 23, and planned on being at sea for six months.
Search and rescue teams are searching for Abby, but they have had no sign of her.
This raises the question of what are parents doing with their minor children? No matter how good a seaman is, if mother nature has taught us nothing, it's that she is bigger and better than we are.
If Abby Sunderland is or was the best seaman, why risk the life of one so young. Could she not have just enjoyed sailing without risking her life.
I hope and pray for her safe return, but I am angry that parents are risking the lives of their children.

I commend her for following her dreams despite the odds. It's more than most are willing to do. I very much hope that she's able to re-contact her team and get out of her current predicament safely.
Kudos Sunderland Family!
