Deb and her husband Liam are definately animal lovers. They adopted, rescued a very skinny brown pony and fed him a lot and loved him a lot and he turned into a genuine Pintaloosa Horse!!
Â
According to Cookinfordogs
 Â
"What is in Your Dog Food?
Do you know? Did you know that dog food manufacturers are not required to tell you? It's true, because many times they do not know.
They purchase by-products from processing plants; the processing plants process anything and everything into a mush that they sell as meat by-product. Does your dog food have the statement: Not for Human Consumption on it? If it does, you are in effect feeding your pet a lot of garbage that would truly make you ill. It makes them ill too!
Your Dog can have a long healthy life, you can marvel at your dog's condition like I do every day. Since Home Cookin' my pups don't even accumulate dental plaque!! That's a savings of hundreds of dollars per year! Dental care for pets is expensive!!"

Thank You so much for this opportunity!
So, I see your books are about animals.
That means you must own a bunch of them right? Lol!
Hi, Connie.
Deb is here to answer all your questions tonight.

Hi Deb!
Hi Connie!
It's amazing to me the junk they put in dog food and even worse are allowed to do so. I must say both my mom and my best friend cook for their dogs and my SIL buys only the expensive stuff from the vet.
It's not rocket science and I think if you can make the time, by all means cook for your doggie. No wonder dog bakeries are sprouting up all over in our area - just saying:)
It is truly sad but it is all about "money" .
I do not have a dog as a pet, yet I love the idea of feeding dogs healthy foods & snacks. Deborah, I read the October 2008 interview where you state your next book is in the works, it's a children's story about bunnies, how is the book coming along and when will it be published? Thanks!

You are number 5 participant, and that means you get the free book!! Congratulations, you can try out Home Cookin' for Dogs!
I have two cats. Sweety and Lucky.
You can get the print version at Amazon but I checked last night and they only had one left.
They always are. It eliminates one of the money makers. :)
Does he use certian recipes for the dogs food? Deb's book has recipes in it for dogs. A cookbook for dogs. :)
My Jinger is a Chow/Samoyed and she is ok with eggs, her big deal is beef!
That is a good question. More recipes means more variety for the dogs. :)
My vet suggested that I not feed my dog anything with nuts in it. So I had to take the peanut butter away.
However, you are making me want a P&J sandwich now. LOL I am hungry.
I have three very active pit bulls ranging in weight from about 75-78 lbs. I would like to switch from regular dog food to home cooked. I want to base it on chicken and brown rice. What else do I need to add (fruit, veggies) and how much will they need per day?
Finally an author that meets with your interest. LOL It is good to see you.
That's a lot of dog to feed! lol! Get a good rice based cereal (no additives) Use chicken soup, low sodium, add a little oatmeal and some green beans! Feed the same amts they get now. Remember none of this has to be brand name.
any rice cereal that isn't sweetened or have additives, you can feed with cottage cheese or you can add to a recipe. If you want you can add a scrambled egg to the mix
I notice you suggest that dog owners talk to their vets before using one of the recipes for full nutritional needs of their dogs. Have you talked to many vets before publishing your cookbook for dogs?
I gave my Vet a copy of the book, and I sent my Vet from Southern CA a copy too! I also make it a habit to give one to any K-9 Officer I see. My Vet has a sense of humor, when I got my pony, he came out and said to me, well, if he doesn't work out for you, "There's always dog food"...lol, he's a card.
I am glad you are here. :)
Since recital is over, Angela will be up until 10 or so....
My SIL has a dog that is allergic to gluten. What do you suggest to cook for him?
hi deb
sorry i'm late.
initially I had the publisher do publicity, then I started on line and through social sites. Mostly Nings. I pass out business cards, I went to pet expos, had a book signing at a pet store; now Gather is hosting me. I have done 2 radio internet interviews.
There are only 15 minutes left in this chat so make sure you ask those questions that you want answers too.
Melinda ask a question above that you missed:
"Rice cereal- like rice crispies? Is this then cooked, or just mixed together? "
"
I would like to thank each of you for attending. It has been a great chat. Thanks so much. Have a wonderful night!
Deb is donating the book. Remember to ask
Your local library for her books.
