Funny take on a deadly serious topic. I often wonder why the mainstream media never reports that every major scientific organization in the world endorses the IPCC Reports - 1. that global warming is real, and 2. that there is a 90% probability that it is caused by humans.

It won’t all come out at once or even over several decades, but if temperatures increase, then the methane and carbon dioxide will escape the soil, scientists say.
The permafrost issue has caused a quiet buzz of concern among climate scientists and geologists. Specialists in Arctic climate are coming up with research plans to study the permafrost effect, which is not well understood or observed, said Robert Corell, chairman of the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment, a study group of 300 scientists.
“It’s kind of like a slow-motion time bomb,” said Ted Schuur, a professor of ecosystem ecology at the University of Florida and co-author of the study in Science.
Most of the yedoma is in little-studied areas of northern and eastern Siberia. What makes that permafrost special is that much of it lies under lakes; the carbon below gets released as methane. Carbon beneath dry permafrost is released as carbon dioxide.
Using special underwater bubble traps, Walter and her colleagues found giant hot spots of bubbling methane that were never measured before because they were hard to reach.
“I don’t think it can be easily stopped; we’d really have to have major cooling for it to stop,” Walter said.
Scientists aren’t quite sure whether methane or carbon dioxide is worse. Methane is far more powerful in trapping heat, but only lasts about a decade before it dissipates into carbon dioxide and other chemicals. Carbon dioxide traps heat for about a century.

My position is not unlike my position on evolution. There is much evidence to support it, but there are still gaps and uncertainties. We don't have the full picture yet.

No, but a substantial majority of them were there, and their consensus was clear. While that consensus does not guarantee that they are right, if you go back a hundred years of history, you will find very few, if any, cases where a scientific consensus of this magnitude was wrong.
Is it possible that they are wrong? Yes. But the burden of proof is on the deniers, who I think even you will admit are in the minority.

Bert, the whole consensus of scientists thing is a hoax. Al Gore, I believe started that rumor, If you want to see first hand how many scientists think AGW is a hoax, try Googling "Scientists opposed to AGW" and similar searches. None that I know of are on any oil company payrolls, by the way. And if the oil companies wanted to, they could easily buy off even the IPCC. Additionally, the IPCC promotes fear to raise money. So they are clearly biased. If AGW is a hoax, they are out of business! Oil companies will still be in business even if AGW isn't a hoax. People like the cars they drive.

Personally, I don't know of many climate change deniers. However, I do know there are scientists and other folks who question and even doubt the veracity of this "consensus" opinion you speak of, Bert. I deny nothing about climate change. However I do have some doubts concerning it.

I remember back in 1985 they predicted that Florida would be underwater and that the U.S. would suffer a severe drought and famine by 1995. They predicted that New York would be like Florida by 1990 and that Canada would be a vacation spot like Hawaii. LOL!

And yes, the process is slow and that's why we humans have always adapted to past climate changes. One did almost kill us as a species. It was the ice age that occurred 200,000 years ago. It caused severe droughts in Africa. It is estimated that only 2000 Homo sapiens were left. We were on the brink of extinction but we survived and flourished.

Ironically, it was the warming of the last 200,000 years that saved us, so one has to wonder why there is fear of warming. An ice age could wipe out 99% of the human race! So let it be warm!

Gary, I don't know if you'll care for this comment, or not, but I want you to know that I do mean this as a compliment when I say this. I have always noticed that both you and Bill Maher are two of the wittiest people I've come across, and I've always thought your styles of delivery of your opinions, ideas, and musings are strikingly similar.

I'd really like people like you and Bill Maher to weigh-in much more often on the dialouge concerning many a topic, than most I've witnessed.
