Apple announced the release for iPhone 4 at WWDC today. It’s set to come out June 24. Hooray, the magical new gadget is just in time for Father’s Day!
Father’s Day, always the 3rd Sunday of June here in the US, lands on June 20 this year. The new iPhone 4 doesn’t come out until June 24 but you can order it beginning June 15. Dad will have to wait a few days to get his hands on it but you can still surprise him with a card announcing the arrival of the world’s favorite new tech-toy.
          Â
Unlike iPad, the new iPhone 4 is affordable.  Nice work, Apple! You can get Dad the 16GB version for $199.00.  This might sound a bit unreasonable in this economy but if you go in on it with your siblings or family members it makes it a lot easier.  AT&T is also allowing for easy upgrades to the new phone if your current iPhone contract ends in 2010.  Apple and AT&T are making it pretty easy to give the best Father’s Day gift yet.  Also, if you happen to be rolling in the bling this year you can get him the 32GB version for $299.Â
Either way, it’s worth it. The iPhone 4 has an awesome new camera, front and back facing with zoom and flash. The new video technology and iMovie app let you edit, render and post edited videos directly from the phone. If your Dad is anything like mine he’ll go nuts.  What is with Dads and video cameras anyway?Â
It’s also got video call capability with a hot new app called FaceTime.  It’s built in to the new phone and is easier to use than a lot of other Voice Over IP programs.  The only drawback is that it only works with other iPhone 4.  You might have to splurge and get one for yourself so that Dad has someone to video chat with on his new toy. For a fuller list of iPhone 4G features, you can check out my previous blog: http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474978285079
Most importantly, the new phone is all the rage. Everyone is talking about it.  Everyone wants it. It’s almost a historical event, the thinnest, “smartest†phone ever, released only days after Father’s Day.  Make up for all the slippers, drills, dinners and previous “standard†gifts and make it a Father’s Day to remember.  Much thanks, again, to Apple, for making this year count!
