Whatever happened to Double-Knit?

I'm at a friends house typing on a MAC computer and I haven't got a clue how to copy and paste a picture on this foreign computer (foreign to me anyway) and I sure would love to show a picture of the dresses that Martha Stewart has paraded on her show today. I have been watching the Martha Stewart show on TV and they just had a fashion show by some young fashion designers that I've never heard of and in my opinion these dresses are "double-ugly". Wow, I can't believe that anyone would actually wear these nightmares. You definitely have to be in the younger generation to even consider them. Can you imagine an old lady like myself strutting out in a loosely draped sparkly dress resembling a mans sleeveless undershirt? And, speaking of double (I did mention double-ugly), whatever happened to Double-Knit? It never wrinkled and it washed and dried in seconds still looking like new. Is it around anymore? I haven't seen it in a garment in years. I think it was a petroleum-based product. Maybe we could scoop up the oil from the latest oil nightmare and make more double-knit material. I'm too old for the world that I live in ... LOL!

It's still out there. Those about the only kind of pants I wear. I hate to feel constricted. My flab probably could USE some constriction but I don't like that.

I've seen some quilts made out of double-knit squares, so someone other than me used to purchase it. LOL!

I agree, I think we need more designers that design stylish clothes for the average person.

I need a designer who will design pretty affordable clothes for plump me. All the pretty clothes are designed for tiny people and are always waaaaaay too small for me. I may be old but I try not to scare little children and some of the overweight fashions can do that.

I agree, I would like clothes that are designed for women of all sizes. I would love to be able to walk into a store and find stylish clothes that fit and are meant to be worn by women who have a few extra pounds.

Double knit was comfortable to wear, but I always managed to get a stain on
it that I could never get out and I hated that, so I am glad for more washable
materials. (Maybe I'm not as messy since my little ones are all grown)

Yes, now that you mention it, double-knit did stain easy. My memory forgot that part.

I'm sure you mean comfortable clothes. I have a feeling that there is nothing plain about you. Unless it's just "plain old nice", which you are.

Never! I can't remember a tye-die pattern but I do remember a brighter than bright salmon color.

William, when one of my sons was in high school, his crowd of friends went through of faze of wearing those sleeveless undershirts. They called them "wife-beater shirts". LOL! Their explanation was that every movie you've ever seen where a man is beating up on his wife he is always wearing one of those undershirts. LOL! I think they were correct and I think that the movies still put the wife beaters in "wife-beater t-shirts" ..... LOL!

While I was working a few people got on my case about wearing the low class double knits. After working a 10-12 hour day, I still was wrinkle free and just threw it the washing machine when I got home. Their "professional attire" was starting to wrinkle before they made it to work in the mornings and had to be dry cleaned each time. I really liked those comfortable, practical double-knits.
