Justin Bieber’s Gal Pal, Jasmine Villegas, opening act at Belmont Stakes 2010 on June 5

 

As a 28-year-old mother of two girls under the age of three, I’m not quite sure I understand the hype around Justin Bieber. Sure, he’s cute, has great hair and sings well but what’s going to happen when that boy goes through puberty?! At 16, I’m sure his voice isn’t fully developed and to be perfectly honest, I’m pretty sure that’s not the only reason girls as young as three years old are swooning over this Teen Beat Prince.

When I look at Bieber I think, “Wow, his parents must be so proud of him!” When my tween niece looks at him she’s wondering, “Does he have a girlfriend? What does he look for in a girl?” Alas, my lip gloss laden ladies, Justin Bieber has been rumored to being chummy with Jasmine Villegas. Villegas, 17, was Bieber’s love interest in his music video “Baby” and has gained much attention since then. On June 5, Villegas entertained a sea of polka-dots, wide-brimmed hats and high society as the opening act at the Belmont Stakes in New York. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Regardless if I can relate to the hype of these rising stars, I give their parents much props for keeping them out of the scandalous section of the tabloids and preserving their reputation for the days to come when they are finally out on their own. I guess I am turning into a “Belieber”.
