In yet another recall due to high cadmium levels, McDonalds announced today that they would be recalling 12 million Shrek glasses due to the teratogenic substance.
The glasses, part of a promotion for the recent release of Shrek: Forever After & McDonalds, display a painted image related to the movie, with there being four different images in the set. It is the image that has caused the contamination concerns, with the Consumer Product Safety Commission believing that the images could potentially leach cadmium onto the hands of users, posing a risk if unwashed hands are placed in the person's mouth. At this time, no incidences or injuries linked to the recall have been reported.
The CPSC recommends discontinuing use of the glasses immediately, and contacting McDonalds for information about how to collect a full refund. You can contact McDonalds at www.mcdonalds.com/glasses, or 1-800-244-6227.
This is one of several recent recalls linked to cadmium, with other major chains Wal-Mart and Claires recalling cadmium-containing jewelry.
