Dutchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, will appear on Oprah Tuesday, CNN.com reports, to discuss her recent appearance in a sting video where she can be seen accepting $40,000, and a promise for more money after the fact, in exchange for access to Prince Andrew, her ex-husband and the father of her two girls. She told an undercover reporter, "I can open any door you want," referring to Andrew.
Fergie is broke right now, sources have said, and reports speculate that her willingness to sell out Prince Andrew is due to her need for cash. But she says she was also drinking and was not in a normal frame of mind when she was caught on tape selling her husband's private life to the top bidder.
"I haven't faced the devil in the face because I was in the gutter at that moment," she tells Oprah Winfrey. "So I'm aware of the fact that I've been drinking, you know, that I was not in my right place." The 50-year-old former Weight Watchers spokeswoman said she hasn't yet seen the video.
Princesses Beatrice, 21, and Eugenie, 20, the royal ex-couple's daughters have been supportive of their mother throughout this trying situation, sources say. Fergie returned home to the UK over the holiday weekend to be with them.
Supporters of Fergie's claim that she was led to slaughter when an undercover reporter, posing as a business executive seeking "trade connections" reports NYDailyNews.com, wined and dined her on two separate occasions in fancy New York City hot spots, knowing she was broke, and hoping to set her up and catch her willing to do something illegal for a big payout.
"So, as soon as you come to London, come to Royal Lodge. I'll introduce you and sit down, and you'll talk to him about whatever," she told the "businessman." Once she was invited back to the reporter's fake apartment, she agreed to $40,000 cash upfront and then, 500,000 pounds (about $723,000) as a wire transfer.
Arguably entrapment, the Dutchess has still tarnished her reputation through this scandal. I'm sure she's hoping to clear up some of this mess with her appearance on Oprah today. I really feel for her. Yes, what she did was pretty reprehensible. Hopefully this situation will scare her onto the straight and narrow.
