Happy Heart
Materials:
WW yarn: (amounts listed are approximate)
2 oz. MC
1 oz white
Crochet hook size G
25 mm Googly eyes
Fiberfill
Glue gun or tacky glue
Yarn needle
Pattern Note: If making this toy for a child do not use googly eyes but embroider them.
Happy Heart measures about 10 and a half inches tall standing.
Pattern:
Body (make 2)
Row 1: With MC yarn and starting at bottom point of heart, ch 2, work 3
sc in 2nd chain from hook, ch 1, turn. (3)
Row 2 & 3: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (7 sc)
Row 4: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Rows 5 & 6: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (11 sc)
Row 7: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Rows 8 - 10: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (17 sc)
Row 11: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Rows 12 & 13: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (21 sc)
Rows 14 & 15: sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 16: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (23 sc)
Row 17: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
First Lobe
Row 18: Sc in each next 11 sc, leaving remaining sc unworked, ch 1, turn. (11 sc)
Row 19: Dec 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in each remaining sc across, ch 1, turn. (10 sc)
Row 20: Decrease 1 sc over first 2 sc, sc in each sc to last 2 sc, decrease 1 sc over last 2 sc, ch 1, turn. (8 sc)
Row 21: Sc in each sc to last 2 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc, ch 1, turn. (7 sc)
Row 22: Decrease 1 sc over first 2 sc, sc in each sc to last 2 sc, decrease 1 sc over last 2 sc, fasten off. (5 sc)
Second Lobe
Row 18: Continuing in the unworked sts of row 17, sk the sc after sc of first lobe,
ch 1, work sc in same st and a sc in each remaining st across, ch 1, turn. (11 sc)
Row 19: Sc in each sc to last 2 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc, ch 1, turn.(10 sc)
Row 20: Decrease 1 sc over first 2 sc, sc in each sc to last 2 sc, decrease 1 sc over last 2 sc, ch 1, turn. (8 sc)
Row 21: Dec 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in each remaining sc across, ch 1, turn. (7 sc)
Row 22: Decrease 1 sc over first 2 sc, sc in each sc to last 2 sc, decrease 1 sc over last 2 sc, fasten off. (5 sc)
Edging:
Rejoin red yarn in the opposite side of the starting chain of row 1, ch 1, work 3 sc in same st as joining,
work 21 sc evenly up side of heart to the 5 sc of row 22, *work 2 sc in next sc, hdc in each of the next 3 sc, 2 sc in last sc*,
work 4 sc down to the free sc of row 17, work a sc in the free sc of row 17, then work 4 sc evenly up to the 5 sc of row 22
of next lobe, rep from * to * once, continue working 21 sc evenly down side and join in the first sc of edging, fasten off.
With a length of red yarn, sew the 2 heart sections together and stuff firmly before closing.
Legs (make 2)
Rnd 1: With MC and starting a foot, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook, join, ch 1, turn. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around., join, ch 1, turn. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around, join, ch 1, turn.. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around, join, ch 1, turn.. (24 sc)
Rnds 5 & 6: Sc in each sc around, join, ch 1, turn..
Rnd 7: (Decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) repeat around, join, ch 1, turn. (12 sc)
Rnd 8: (Sc in next sc, decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) around, changing to white in the last step of final decrease,
join, ch 1, turn. Break off MC. (8 sc)
***Next row starts leg section***
***Stuff foot section firmly after completing rnd 9.***
Rnd 9: (Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around, join, ch 1, turn.. (10 sc)
Rnds 10 - 20: Sc in each sc around, join, ch 1, turn..
At the end of rnd 20, join in next sc, leaving a sewing length, fasten off.
Stuff legs but not as firmly as foot, sew the opening at rnd 20 together, then sew legs to each side of bottom of heart.
Arms (make 2):
Rnd 1: With MC and starting at hand, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join, ch 1, turn.. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around, join, ch 1, turn. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: Sc in each sc around, join, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 4: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around, join, ch 1, turn. (16 sc)
Rnd 5: Sc in each sc around, join, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 6: (Decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) repeat around, join, ch 1, turn. (8 sc)
Rnd 7: Sc in each sc around, changing to white in last step of last sc, join, ch 1, turn. Break off MC.
***Next row starts arm section***
***Stuff hand section firmly after completing rnd 7.***
Rnds 8 - 18: Sc in each sc around, join, ch 1, turn..
At the end of rnd 18, join in next sc, leaving a sewing length, fasten off.
Stuff arms but not as firmly as hand, sew the opening at rnd 18 together, then sew legs to each side of the middle
section of heart.
Glue the googly eyes space evenly apart over rows 12 - 15 (apprx) of heart.
With a length of white yarn, embroider a smile under the eyes.
Weave in all loose ends.
