When I give birth to a child I imagine I will be laying on a nice fluffy hospital bed with my husband holding my hand and telling me he loves me while my mom takes pictures. I will have enough drugs in me that the contractions will only feel like a bad case of gas. Nurses will be coaching me through the labor and the doctor will flawlessly orchestrate the entire event. The baby (gorgeous baby) will simply pop out and after a ten minute recovery time I'll be ready to celebrate over a latte at Starbucks.... I imagine.
Of course, we all know birth involves a lot more screaming and sweating and bleeding and sometimes fainting (poor husbands). Unless, of course, you are Amanda McBride of Bemidji, Minnesota. McBride gave birth to her baby while driving herself to the hospital. That's right... Talk about a multi-tasker! The 29-year-old realized she wasn't gonna make it to any nice fluffy hospital bed so she put her car on cruise control, pushed her seat back for extra room, and pop... pushed that baby out like it was no big deal.
Watch her interview HERE.
I'm still blown away at how simple she makes birthing an 8 pound baby seem! I just hope all my future births are as quick and easy... minus the traffic!
