Douglas Hughes who is a gubernatorial candidate for California, has vowed if elected that he will give pedophiles a choice. Life in prison, or being banned to an island community specifically for pedophiles.
But what bothers me about this, is yes it has good points, yes it has bad points.
Is how he intends to do it.
He KNOWS that a bill like this will never get through legislation, he would have to declare a state of emergency to enact this.
From a crime perspective and protecting children, its a wonderul idea, but is the practicality of it doable?
1. He's chosing an island that is part of a national park. Its Just over 53,000 acres. Its the 2nd largest island, and currently being used for canoing, hiking, camping, and recreational activities.
2. Once settled on the island they will have their own constitution ( must be reviewed by the U.S) have their own currency etc. In other words it would be like a territory to the United States.
3.Problem, not all pedophiles are male, there are female pedophile. So there is a chance that they could marry and have kids....and that would leave an innocent being exposed to the worst kind of offenders. And no one would be there to protect him. Sure there would be law enforcement he claims that would go ahead of the island becoming a territory or own entitty.
4. Institute regulations to ward of escape....Just what regulations, I'm sorry but in any situation like this there is ALWAYS a chance for escape. and I mean always.
5. Under his 'rule' the law could be invaded at any time by the military. I'm sorry but while they may be convicted criminals, they still have rights, and an invasion because someone feels like it is outright wrong.
Don't get me wrong the plan has merits, but overall if I had to say I'm wondering if something like this s unconstitutional.
Right now the bad outweighs the good.

Interesting, but yes unrealistic. It would be more realistic to say we put all of the BDL's (radical liberals) in California and....ahhh, never mind.
If this is what he's running on, he's at least original. However, this should be way down in the list of priorities for California.
