Chi Chi Rodriguez, the legendary golf player, was robbed today. Three armed men robbed Puerto Rican golfer Chi Chi Rodriguez, formally known as Juan Antonio Rodriguez, and his wife. The total losses included $500,000 worth of jewelry, watches and other personal items.
The robbery happened about around 1:30 AM. Robbers broke into the Chi Chi Rodriguez home at El Legato Resort in Guayama, Puerto Rico. The armed robbers tied up Chi Chi Rodriguez, 74, before taking off with the goods.
CNN reports Chi Chi Rodriguez and his wife Iwalani are not injured. According to police spokesperson Erica Colon, “Aside from the fright—they were asleep—they are fine. They were not beaten.â€
As of this afternoon, no arrests were made.
Publicist for Chi Chi Rodriguez, Maria Morales, stated the losses were covered by insurance. Morales also said, “The thing that troubles the most is they took Iwalani's wedding ring.†I think that was probably the most outstanding loss for the famous couple.
Chi Chi Rodriguez first won the PGA Tour in 1963 the won seven more times. He is also the founder of the Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation and the Chi Chi Rodriguez Academy in Clearwater, Florida (golf lessons for children at risk).
Thankfully, Chi Chi Rodriguez and his wife were not hurt. Either way, they must feel anxious and violated after being the victims of a $500,000 robbery.

I have often driven past the Chi Chi Rodriguez Academy in Clearwater, Florida. It helps struggling students in 4th to 8th grade and originally was created to help kids who got in trouble. Years ago, I once went with friends to a Mary Kaye "make over" held one night in the school and I was impressed with the layout and the class rooms. I won stuff for the most improved award. :)
