Early Spanish explorers called the coconut "coco" which means "monkey
face". The big hairy nut has three indentations that resemble eyes
causing it to look like the head and face of a monkey. Nucifera means "nut-bearing." Cocoas nucifera is the scientific name for coconut.

Thanks
Dad would pierce two of the indents to drain the milk out and Mom
would give the 7 of us a drink. Then came the part of getting the
meat of the coconut out. Dad had a great plan to do that with out
breaking it into small pieces. We each got a good sized piece then
Mom would grate it then dry it to use in cooking or baking dishes.
To this day it is one of my favorite 'desserts'.
