(I read what was supposed to be in the story after I was nearly done with it.;p I hope it is okay the way it is.)
The Frog and the Peasant
Once upon a time ther was a frog by the name of George. Ever since George had grown legs and left the pond where he was born, he had lived a life on the run from predators. Not owls, hawks, or snakes--but princesses.
Everywhere George went--there they were! They would chase him through forests and ponds in their glittering crowns and long dresses, calling, "Please wait! I must kiss you to see if you are a prince! "
Kiss? Ugh, George thought. Couldn't these crazy princesses find a human prince??
One day, George found himself in the town of Por. He looked high and low--but no princesses to be found. He couldn't believe his good fortune.
One sunny May day George was feeling quite merry. He had found a pond where flies were abundant, and he could sit on a lily pad without being bothered. Suddenly he looked up to see a young girl at the edge of the pond. His heart skipped a beat for fear, but then he saw she was dressed in rags. No crown, no flowing dress. He dove into the water and swam closer.
She was picking bulrushes when she spied him. He liked her bright, almost glowing green eyes.
"Hello, little frog. Lovely day, isn't it?" she said. No chasing. No screaming about how she needed to kiss him.
The girl came back most every day. When she saw him, she would always talk to him. He didn't answer, as he didn't speak human, but he always listened.
One day, he woke to hear her crying.
Curious, he hopped to the shore by her side.
"Oh,hello, my frog friend." she sniffled. "You are so blessed to be a frog, and not a horrible human. "
George was shocked. Why would she, a human, find other humans so horrible?
"You see," she explained, "The people of Por think I'm a witch or a monster because of the odd color of my eyes. "
Odd? George thought. He thought her glowing green eyes were beautiful.
"I don't remember my parents, or even my name." she went on. "I have no home, I sleep on the street. I try to weave things form the bulrushes to sell for money to buy food, though many will not buy from me. "
George felt so bad for this human--worse than he'd ever felt for anyone. Trying to be comforting, he hopped into her lap.
"Oh, frog, you have been my only friend. I am so glad to I met you. "
Then, to George's suprise, she bent down her head and kissed him. No saying she thought he was a prince, she just did it. And that's when it happened.
A bright light glowed around the girl. It blinded George a moment, but when he could see again...
She was the most beautiful frog he'd ever seen, the glow in her green eyes toned down a bit, but still beautiful.
"Hello, gentle frog." she said. "My name is Philemina. Now that I am back in my true form, I remember what happened to me. I was looking for a new pond to stay in when I happened on an ogre's cave. The ogre tried to catch me to put in his stew, but I managed to hide where it could not see me.
"Angry that it had lost its supper, the ogre cursed me, and I became human. For years, I have lived in this town an outcast because of my glowing green eyes. A kiss to one of my own kind has broken the spell. "
George was so happy, as was Philemina. She was back in her true form, and on the edge of this royalty-less town, he was safe from princesses.
Together in the pond they lived happily ever after.
