It's Getting Hard Finding Good Content On Gather-It SUCKS!

So I'm going to be up for awhile (possibly all nite-a family emergency I'll talk about later maybe), and I just finished playing 2 games of Hearts on POGO (I won:), and I decide to venture on my "Home Page," and I clicked around trying several groups, and I switched from posts to photos, and all I see is Dancing With The Stars s*** (I HATE THAT SHOW-they ought to call it "You Call That Dancing???"), and umpteen videos of the new Miss USA on the stripper pole (can't anyone let her enjoy her win for at least a friggin' week?!), and I even click on Gather NEWS Essential, and get anything but news, and thought about Gather Politics Essential (just not in a political state-of-mind tonite). AND, on top of all that, I'm forced to write this post that nobody'll read. BUT, I got to blow off some steam, and still have some left for my next post...

I agree there is a lot of weird content lately, scalping for some sports event, someone wanting to know where to get good books online to buy, Obama or some other political bashing or other, Rag sheet stories or posts about some celeberity or other it is blah. I did find a couple things. I think people are being lazy and just putting out rubbish. I am not even gettiing anyone to contribute much to my monthly Genre creative Challenge the last 3 months. We have had to wheedle, whine and pull it out and even then barely got enough to qualify for the next months challenger. Not even good photos much.

Try the Writing Essential, its about the only one not bogged down with socialwrite stuff...and go back and read the Genre SHorties content, they are all pretty entertaining.

I tried to convey in my post (not very well) Gather "glorifies" the junk. It's on your Home Page and every time you post, you see the junk. This was originally a writing site, not a tabloid one!

Maybe we must suggest another way of listing the posts?
That it is not only because you are a friend of someone that you have the link to what he/she wrote. Another way of searching is to put words related to your search since the tags are recorded...
So if you are interested in recipe, you may type cook..., for example

Whoa Laurence, for one thing you're fairly new to Gather. So it's upon you to build your network with friends & navigate your way around. Not every one "Gathers" the same way, and my point being that if you have a "Home Page" as on Facebook, then you have content that you select & approve. On Gather, you don't have that option, thus you have to put up with the crap (no j...!)

I disagree. If you choose your Gather friends wisely, and don't befriend the crap producers, the crap doesn't show up in your feed. It's when you look at the "All of Gather" feeds or the so-called "Essentials" that the sheer amount of crap here becomes painfully obvious.

I do agree the the number of active, non-crap producing members is rapidly dwindling.

Missing my point dear Janna. I just caught your post on socialwriting (excellent, by the way), and it's posts like yours that are getting buried in all the fluff. I don't want to have to go hunting on this site as it's too time-consuming, and I devote too much time here as it is.

I guess I am missing your point. I don't have to hunt for anything or put up with crap--my friends' content shows up in my feed and there's little to no crap because I'm not friends with anyone who produces it. Perhaps I don't know what you mean by having content you "select and approve" on Facebook but not on Gather, since you can easily select whose content appears in your feeds here.

Personally, I don't care if my posts get buried or not. What I do care about is that there is a dearth of interesting content and conversation because so many interesting contributing members have left and it doesn't appear that any new ones are joining.

All I have to say is that I review my friend's posts. I find good stuff all the time. I totally avoid the Rag Mag posts, If I wanted to rwead that stuff I woulf buy The National Enquirer.

I agree I don't want to read about Tiger Woods or Jesse James if I wanted to I would buy a tabloid. My box was filled with such stories, was being the operative word here.
