Two weeks ago the US Supreme Court ruled in favor of the remote Mojave Desert cross that honored dead American veterans. The High Court allowed the cross to stand while the battle raged over the cross. The cross has since been stolen. It disappeared either late Sunday or early Monday morning. Somebody actually cut the bolts holding the cross.
The cross has been in the desert for the past 75 years, and during that time it has been vandalized many times. There is no motive available for the latest vandalism. Both sides of the debate over the cross have condemned the theft of the monument to those who died serving our country.
The American Legion demands justice for their cross, and the American Civil Liberties Union says that they believe in the rule of law and do not want the cross to be vandalized or stolen – they want the courts to decide the cross’s ultimate fate.
There is no word yet on if the cross will be allowed to be rebuilt. What do you think should happen? Is this a church and state separation issue?

Maybe erecting the star of David is in order.
How about a MORE beautiful and theft proof statue of the raising of the Flag over Iwo Jima?
The memorial is not in question, it is using patriotism to promote Christianity.
I wonder if Christ would condone the using of the atomic bomb?
It is now an opportune time to come together and find a way to memorialize the vets without protmoting Christianity as if God was pro war.
Are there not already memorials to these vets, or did the guys put this cross as a memorial to specific men they fought alongside? I don't know enough about it, for sure, to really weigh in.
In any event, the theives should be sought.
I have said it so many times before, the danger to Christianity is NOT the atheists but the "Christians" themselves who embarras the church.
Look at this cross debacle, would it not be more Christian to remove the cross from government land? Why do the Cjhristian extremists want government out of our lives but running religion?
The Money used to maintain this cross in a very DESOLATE place could be better used to feed the hungry, minister to those in Jail or all the wonderful things HE taught us to bo for our fellow man. Would that not be more Christian? Would that Not be more in touch with HIS teachings?
