I got an email from a conservative family member today. Perhaps you've gotten it too. See below:
 Â
Let's take HIM  down through the Internet... Seems the majority of the press are worshiping at his feet....Someone should put this on face book..  If each person sends this to a minimum of twenty people on their address list, in three days, all people in The United States of America  would have the message. I believe this is one proposal that really should be passed around.
THIS WILL CURDLE YOUR BLOOD AND CURL YOUR HAIRÂ
The name of the book Obama is reading is called:Â
The Post-American World, and it was written by a fellow Muslim.Â
"Post" America means the world After America ! Please forward this picture to everyone you know, conservative or liberal. We must expose Obama's radical ideas and his intent to bring down our beloved America !Â
Â
This disgusting email is full of lies. Fareed Zakaria, the author of the book, is not a Muslim, nor is Obama. Zakaria is a respected journalist, the editor of Newsweek's international edition. The book was reviewed by Publisher's Weekly and this is what they said:
"When a book proclaims that it is not about the decline of America but "the rise of everyone else," readers might expect another diatribe about our dismal post-9/11 world. They are in for a pleasant surprise as Newsweekeditor and popular pundit Zakaria (The Future of Freedom) delivers a stimulating, largely optimistic forecast of where the 21st century is heading. We are living in a peaceful era, he maintains; world violence peaked around 1990 and has plummeted to a record low. Burgeoning prosperity has spread to the developing world, raising standards of living in Brazil, India, China and Indonesia. Twenty years ago China discarded Soviet economics but not its politics, leading to a wildly effective, top-down, scorched-earth boom. Its political antithesis, India, also prospers while remaining a chaotic, inefficient democracy, as Indian elected officials are (generally) loathe to use the brutally efficient tactics that are the staple of Chinese governance. Paradoxically, India's greatest asset is its relative stability in the region; its officials take an unruly population for granted, while dissent produces paranoia in Chinese leaders. Zakaria predicts that despite its record of recent blunders at home and abroad, America will stay strong, buoyed by a stellar educational system and the influx of young immigrants, who give the U.S. a more youthful demographic than Europe and much of Asia whose workers support an increasing population of unproductive elderly. A lucid, thought-provoking appraisal of world affairs, this book will engage readers on both sides of the political spectrum."

I hope you responded with some truth. The truth is anyone who is passing this around is a racist idiot.
Which is exactly how we got ourselves into Iraq.
In short, that's called "willful ignorance".
Posting the facts on Gather is a good choice too!
By the way, Zakaria was actually a Reagan supporter and then began to move to the left. He is as someone else pointed out more moderate in his politics.
And for the record, I'm no Obama fan, but I feel that way for SPECIFIC reasons: He is continuing the Bush wars, is expanding an illegal war and occupation in Afghanistan and moving it into Pakistan, and he continues to preside over our use of depleted uranium in those wars which will cause birth defects and cancers in people hundreds of thousands of years from now, who probably won't even know who Obama was. They might not even know what Muslims or Christians were either.
Alnd as for Obama, I am not in agreement with all that he is doing either. I am disappointed in his decision to continue offshore drilling regardless of the oil companies saying that they are taking precautions. I don't trust them anymore. Well, actually, I never did. One of brothers used to be a lobbyist for an oil company.
you gotta love it on some level tho....it's just so sadly funny.
It's funny because it looks like something for MAD Magazine.
It's so sad because it's not.
Unfortunately, this sort of political bigotry, cultural bias, ethnic distortion and general zealous pedagoguery is likely to increase in our country, before it defuses.
Many of us do not wish to recognize that we may very well be witnessing the gurglings of extreme right wing radical formations--ones that could find their played-out-realities in the aftermath of another major terrorist attack.
Our country has no historical memory of war--as in Western Europe.
From the standpoint of plunder, invasion, physical destruction, and even conflagration, our country is a neophyte compared to the Purple Heart endurance of our allied continent, not to mention the character of adversity found in other parts of the world.
Look at the Haitians. Their spirt is remarkable.
These days, many of our citizens panic if someone--who has just had a session in a tanning salon--buys a ticket, and approaches the gate of an airlines flight, to offer his border pass.
Of course, many lives were saved in Times Square, because of some alert citizens and competent members of the Munitions Squad.
But from the standpoint of bombing incidents in urban areas, how many of us would prefer to live in Kandahar, Islamabad, or in, and around, the West Bank?
All these issues, it seems to me, spawn from the rediculous fear-mongering of the so-called implications of Obama holding that book.
