The competition on American Idol is getting tougher than ever. With only six contestants remaining, the smallest mistake can get one kicked off the show. Who would miss out on a Top 5 spot by getting kicked off American Idol tonight?
The elimination show started out with filler as usual. Rascal Flatts performed and another Ford commercial was featured. Pause. Can we talk about the ad for a moment? The American Idol makeup department was put to use, transforming the singers into vampires. In the commercial, Michael Lynch drives down an abandoned road (in a Ford, duh) and encounters his competition, all dressed as vampires. But he manages to scare them away in a cheesy way...literally. He pulls out a pizza with extra garlic, which makes the bloodsuckers skedaddle.
The show then turned from an embarrassing moment to one of fear. The contestants were narrowed into two groups. The top three were Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze, and Aaron Kelly. No surprise there with Crystal and Lee, but Aaron could always go either way. The dreaded bottom three positions were held by Michael Lynch, Casey James, and Siobhan Magnus. Michael is another swing contestant, but I was genuinely surprised Casey James was voted into the bottom half. In my opinion he had an amazing performance on Shania Twain night. Siobhan on the other hand deserved her spot. Without a doubt, she was the worst performer last night.
Enough seriousness. Time for more filler! Country group Sons of Sylvia performed after the commercial. My prediction is their album sales will skyrocket after tonight. Following their performance, Lady Antebellum sang their hit, "Need You Now". (Because we all haven't heard this one on the radio hundreds of times already.) After that Rascal Flatts came back one again, but this time with Shakira. Odd combo, don't you think? They sang Shakira's song "Gypsy". She's pretty awesome and I immediately approved just a few bars in.
From there, it was time to narrow the results down further. Who would be the lucky contestant to head back to the couches? Michael Lynch! Wow, who on the show has lucked out more than this guy??? That meant Casey James and Siobhan Magnus were in the bottom two.
The person kicked off "American Idol" April 28 was Siobhan Magnus. The favorite from the beginning had finally fallen. The past few weeks had caught up with her and her screeching performance from Shania Twain night certainly didn't help.
Are you sad to see Siobhan Magnus leave American Idol, or do you think her time had come?
