Crystal is one of my favorites, but I wish she'd take the sox off and just leave the Bower.

She's a great singer. But, that wasn't a great song for her to sing.

I think that the comment by Seacrest was calculated and totally, unbelievably cruel, after all of the blogging (also unnecessarily mean) about Crystal's teeth. The thing is, Crystal is always spunky and gracious and is a much better singer than she's actually shown in most of her Idol performances. Listen to her own song Holy Toledo for a better representation of her vocal talent. The reason I actually really loved her No One Needs To Know is that I've been wishing she would display more of her incredible vocal range (a fantastically good low note sequence last week and the true high notes this week). She's really gifted. I almost thought the judges had decided to see if the one time they didn't all give Crystal their approval, the country would follow their lead and vote less for her. But she truly is an original, adorable, refreshingly outspoken, and a great singer. If one of the other people wins, America is crazy. I think that Casey is cute and, for him, sang well last night, and Michael is totally boring, not distinctive and doesn't have that pleasant a voice. Siobhan did scream too much and missed too many notes ("pitchy") and is, after all a little strange. Some of the girls voted off had better vocal quality but were just your average good singer -- nothing special in their personalities. I found Katie sort of annoying. I am a singer, so, a tough critic. Crystal is a FIND. Carrie Underwood says of her own Idol performances that she was terrible, and I do think she's grown tremendously both vocally and personality-wise. She's funny, enthusiastic, a good host on the country awards shows, and a decent little develping actress. Clarkson and she are, in my view the best winners to date, and Crystal could be as great as they or more so, if allowed to develop her natural gifts. I keep playing the tape of her singing last "No One... " from night, and I just love it. The judges sometimes do want the "Big" thing and don't recognize good old honest-to-god talent. Crystal will always be able to belt and channel Janis and others and be herself doing it, but I really pray that she'll have the courage to sing the way she does on Holy Toledo before Idol is finished. And in case you couldn't tell, I hope she wins.
