According to the Wall Street Journal, Joan Rivers made a dramatic entrance at Tribeca Film Festival in New York City Monday night at the premiere of her autobiographical film “Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work”, which will be in theatres June 11. The movie was produced by Director Ricki Stern and Co-producer Annie Sundberg. It exposes the harsh reality behind the glamour of show business. This movie was created between June 2008 and August 2009, while Ms. Rivers performed an autobiographical play in London which was moderately successful, and she also appeared in “The Celebrity Apprentice.”
Director Stern knew Joan Rivers well since Ms. Rivers and her mother were close friends. This was why Ms. Rivers trusted her to create this intensely personal documentary film.
Joan was quoted as saying about her all consuming passion for her career by saying, “I was born to do this. It is my drug. It is my cookie. It is the thing I want.” Ms. Rivers also spoke candidly about how she lasted so long in the business, saying, “You have no security in this business, so you better work day and night, or get out of it." She also confessed she had a paper copy of almost every joke she had ever created.
