Self-proclaimed "Emporer of Hemp" Jack Herer died Thursday morning in Eugene, Oregon. He was 70. Herer was a legendary marijuana activist, and author of the book The Emperor Wears No Clothes - a self-published book on ganja that has sold more than 600,000 copies.
According to High Times, Herer suffered a heart attack last September after giving a speech at the Hempstalk Festival in Portland, Oregon. He spent nearly a month in the hospital before being released in October 2009. But it sounds like his health never fully recovered.
High Times reports that Herer ran for President of the United States twice. He was inducted into the Counterculture Hall of Fame in 2003. Herer also had a "highly" popular kind of bud named in his honor.
