Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey split caused by Jim Carrey depression battle?

Recent celebrity entertainment news revealed that Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey are splitting up.  On April 6, 2010, Carrey announced the breakup with former Playboy model Jenny McCarthy via his Twitter account:

"Jenny and I have just ended our 5yr relationship. I'm grateful 4 the many blessings we've shared and I wish her the very best! S'okay! ?;^>" 

Now rumors are circulating that the split was caused by Jim Carey's intense battle with depression.  The source is the National Enquirer so take these claims with a large grain of salt.

National Enquirer was reportedly told by a source that Jim Carrey's depression had Jenny McCarthy on a constant roller-coaster of emotions.  Jim Carrey made it public knowledge that he dealt with some tough depression during a "60 Minutes" TV interview back in 2004.  During his relationship with McCarthy, a source reported to Enquirer during some of the worst instances, "Jim would simply vanish off the radar, not picking up her phone calls - even hiding out in hotels or one of his homes."

Reportedly the actress-comedian couple was always breaking apart and getting back together.  The last straw for Jenny was the constant dealing with Jim's depression.  Now she's ready to move on and find someone truly for her.

A Chicago Sun-Times column speculated at some other reasons for the recent breakup including the fact that Jenny McCarthy didn't want to be a "37-year old grandma" since Carrey's daughter recently gave birth.  The other speculative reasons are that McCarthy and Carrey were too competitive with one another, or it was simply a breakup based on the usual trials and tribulations Hollywood couples go through.  The column adds that a studio executive source told them "They have always been so obsessed with each other physically, I can't believe they won't eventually reconnect."
