Rangers Flyers score - NHL Playoffs 2010 hockey update

The Philadelphia Flyers have defeated the New York Rangers in their final game of the season, with the winner advancing as the #8 seed in the Playoffs.  New York was still in contention for the final playoff spot, but would have needed today's win to make it.  The final Rangers Flyers score was 2-1 in favor of Philly in a close game that needed a shootout to decide it.

The Rangers Flyers game was one of the final games of the 2010 NHL season, with major playoff implications in store.  The Rangers held a 1-0 lead until the third when Philadelphia's Matt Carle scored on a power play, while PA Parenteau could only watch from the penalty box.  Tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the game would have to be decided in a shootout between the two teams.  The huge game with playoff contention on the line, went into a shootout with Philadelphia getting 2 of 3 shots while New York only had only 1 of 3.

Sunday's game saw a huge performance from Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist who recorded 46 saves on the day, but unfortunately for him it was Philadelphia's Brian Boucher on the winning end.  The three stars of the game were Claude Giroux, Henrik Lundqvist and Matthew Carle.  Parenteau had the sole shootout goal for the Rangers while it was Claude Giroux and Danny Briere for the Flyers.      

With Philly's win in the Rangers Flyers game they will now be the #8 seed in the Eastern Conference and get to play the #1 seed Washington Capitals in the first round.  New York, with the loss, will miss making its fifth consecutive playoffs this season.  See more info about today's game at rangers.nhl.com!
