Shuttle lifts off.....and not with a whimper THIS time!

I have been in Florida for over 30 years and have experienced every launch from the early duds to the most majestic. LOL

I had mentioned here that that last few launches have been so routine that even the dogs didn't raise their heads off the pillow.....very unlike the early days when the earth shook like the Gates Of Hell had opened...........allow me to amend THAT observation this morning!

Not expecting anything out of that 'new' ordinary..........someone must have put some damned Wheatie's in those fuel tanks.

 I am about 30 miles West of the launch site.

True I have been monitoring the earthquake news all night..................my first fleeting thought when lift off took place..........was EARTHQUAKE!

My house danced, the dog went berzerk, hanging lamps swayed, the porch light went ON all by itself and there were those Gates Of Hell opening again!

God speed to the crew of the Shuttle...................and thanks for the reminder of what an amazing venture they have undertaken!

It was picture perfect, did you see the exhaust trail of the SSME's? The sun was in just the right spot- Out of the dozens of launches I have watched that's the first time I saw that.

Lots of uncertainty and panic locally. NASA is pretty much the anchor income for the housing explosion over the past 10 years. Still a real injustice that the surrounding localities nearest the base got NOTHING except the occasional temporary influx of business from NASA tourism.

I've never been to Florida. Never really had any desire to go to Florida, except to see a liftoff!
