No Change in Unemployment Rate, As Employers...

This article talks about all the census jobs and the temp jobs, and even the pt jobs added. I think first of all that they shouldn't count these because the census is very temporary, as are the temp jobs. Which is the majority of the jobs added. The rest are all part-time. Not too mention, I haven't seen any increase in hiring here in FL. I am constantly looking. The numbers and statistics they have do not have any sources, so that is questionable right there. The only jobs I know that were added was the census jobs. I didn't take the job because within months I would be in the same spot, broke and unemployed again.

In terms of the supposed PT jobs added, I haven't noticed a difference there either. I refuse to take PT work because that is practically no money, doesn't pay the bills, and it barely covers the gas you waste going to work. So, IF they indeed added any PT jobs it isn't going to help any, because it is underemployment.

There still considering this a recession, when in fact it is a depression. It's as bad or almost as bad as the Great Depression. In our day though, this is just as cataclysmic as the Great Depression was back in the 30's. SO again there is nothing good happening. Not to mention that everything I have researched and seen shows us losing jobs, not gaining. For example, the 2500 from Sallie Mae! Then there is going to be another 1500 cut in July! So to say there adding jobs, I think this isÂ posturingÂ from the gov't to try and get there numbers up. It was a pure waste of time and ink, if you ask me. They do not state in the entire article where these numbers come from. It just eludes that it comes from the government. That gives me enough reason to disbelieve.

It is a hard decision to make to work some or not at all simply because of costs...

But a couple of things we have to disagree on here.

First off, the census jobs have to be counted, if not else for political reasons. Like "all" the jobs created by the spendathon and follow on congressional largess, they are needed to make the real numbers not so obvious. Second, the nation lost more jobs and suffered far worse economically under the Carter/Reagan recession. Major difference was the jobs came back much faster and recovery did so too.

Saying this is the 2d Depression, while it may feel that way personally-buys into the attempt to make out this Administration is saving the free world. It simply isn't true.

I take it that you don't have anyone to support but yourself? Personally, I don't understand not taking the Census jobs. Yes, they are temporary, but it looks good to employers to know that you're trying to work. And as for part time? I know many people who work 2 and 3 part time jobs to equal one full time one. What doesn't make sense is staying home and collecting unemployment when there is work to be had.

Not in this area. All pt jobs are taken...and there are no temp jobs here either, cause I am with several temp agencies. As for the census, by time I heard about it, it was far too late! I am actively searching. The sad thing is within my state the unemployment rate is way too high! I have to put in out of state apps. Which if i do get an out of state job, I have to figure out how to get there.

If you think we are in a Depression just stick around, You aint seen nothing yet. It will get worse, a lot worse if this administration does not quit spending like there is no tomorrow.

Second, I worry about the elderly and the children and the impact that some new laws will have on them now and in the future.

It'll be hard on them but they have the advantage of youth and strength. They can use a shovel to turn soil and plant a garden. They can go hunting and bring in game. They have the strength of youth to carry them through.

Yeah they can make a garden if they live in the right area, with the right soil. Florida is horrible for that, not too mention how long it takes to grow. In the mean time they will be homeless and broke.

Michelle, you have a lot to learn about a veg. garden. FL is ideal for growing. Lots of sunshine and lots of rain. No freezing temp and a 12 month growing season. Here we get 3 -4 months for growing.

You have forests down there that grow so fast you have a hard time keeping them down. You can build a shelter and you can live off the land. you can do all of this anywhere in the country, it easier in the South.

Col, the soil here is crap! It is not ideal at all. My dad tried to get a garden going and had to constantly fertilize and add stuff to the soil to make it workable. I live here and I know what I am talking about. I may be young but I am not stupid. I wouldn't say it if it wasn't true.

Michelle, What do you do with lawn clippings when you mow? Compost I suppose. What do you do with food you don't eat or spoils? What do you do with cardboard boxes? Tree leaves? There are lots of ways to enrich soil. Does anything grow in the area he tried to plant a garden? Yes some areas require a lot of work to keep the soil workable. When you have no job you tend to have a lot of time so the work should not be a problem for young folks.

Sounds like there is a lot of clay in your soil down there.

There is nothing but clay! It's insane. We will have to have a place to live to be able to do the work. This is going to be just as hard on everyone. Yeah, we're young but the majority of us have no idea how to do things like that!

Clay can be worked but it's tough. There is plenty of land around that is not clay, You may have to look for it or revove the first foot of clay and replace it with good dirt mixed with a little sand. If you have a lawn you already have what you need. Use the lawn. Since there are so many who dont know how to garden best you learn. There is site on Gather that can teach you a lot. It's a good idea to play Boy Scout "Be Prepared". If nothing happens you have gained knowledge. If the worst happens you will be able to survive. If it ever happens plant a LOT more than you need and when you thin out the rows of plants use those little seedlings for food they are good and full of nourishment.

I don't think I will be staying in FL if that happens. It is really bad here. Times are different, and not many people will do as you say. I can understand that. People just need to stock up on as much as they can possibly store. That way there won't be any issues. My dad has already started. My husband and I have a little spill over, but I am sure that it will grow. Thank you for all your tips though. FL is literally 2nd worst, next to Michigan. That is pretty bad. I might move to Montana where my dad is, and where unemployment is lowest in the country! I already have apps there and will hopefully get something soon. I am getting a lot more bites and responses from there than I am here. I am getting nothing here. It is really annoying. I have put in hundreds of apps here, and nothing. I have put 8 in there and i have 2 possibles, and have gotten 5 responses back. See the difference? It's astounding.

Sheridan is 50 miles S of Butte. Helena is on the other side of Butte 50 or 60 miles.
