Virginia Madsen Costar Fired for Refusing Love Scenes
Virginia Madsen is one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. Sure, that's pure opinion, but I think millions agree. And now one of her costars has gotten fired for refusing to shoot a love scene with her.
Neal McDonough of Desperate Housewives fame was slotted to appear in ABC’s upcoming series Scoundrels. But not anymore. McDonough refused to act in heated sex scenes with Madsen, and he was fired for it. Wha? After McDonough was let go, actor David James Elliot took over. While ABC officially explained the modification as a simple casting change, it’s now obvious that there were interesting reasons behind this “simple casting change.” And what's the reason behind McDonough's refusal? Staunch Cathoic beliefs. He'll lose $1 million for this role.
Guess the man is really stickin' by his morals. But we *are* just talking about TV-friendly love scenes. Do you think he's ridiculous, or admirable?

Is fired really the right phrasing?
Mr. McDonough was unwilling to do what the script called for. His reasons really are not the issue. Cudos to him for having a belief system he was not willing to compromise for a few dollars. That does not, in my mind, mean he was fired. The scene called for x, which he was not willing to do. So he moves on and someone willing moves in.
It doesn't make Neal good or bad and neither does it make his "replacement" good or bad. Although, I definitely respect and applaud Neal McDonough for having a line he won't cross and sticking to it.
I don't see a story here...
