Is anyone else confused and slightly nauseated by all the hoopla about this girl and her swimsuit malfunction?
With our appetite for sex: sex between celebrities; infidelity; who's a virgin and who isn't (anyone remember the early versions of Brittany Spears and Jessica Simpson?); and which politician is acting 'inappropriately,' why isn’t anyone taking time to notice that this girl just had a hard day at work?
Recently Anne Curtis, while filming a song and dance number, exposed her right breast when her bikini top lost it hold amidst all the singing and dancing. No big deal right? Someone calls cut and the scene is reshot. Except there were a few choice audience members who took the opportunity to take pictures during Curtis’ vulnerable moment and proceeded to post those pictures on the internet and share them with friends. Why? Is it not enough that Curtis, along with the rest of the cast and crew, put in countless hours rehearsing and setting up all the technical aspects of the show to give the best performance possible? Is it not enough that the girl was running around in a bikini top in the first place? Instead of taking the opportunity to protect a performer (who was performing for their entertainment, by the way), some members of this audience decided take a moment of weakness and turn it into sport with no thought as the how they would feel if the roles were reversed.
In what has become an alarmingly common occurrence (last week it was Katherine Heigl, think someone else will slip before March is out?), nipple slips expose more than just flesh. They bring us face to face with another alarming development; the dissatisfaction of audiences with anything other than complete and total disclosure into the lives and persons of our celebrities. Gone are the days when glamour came with a healthy dose of mystery. What do you think is going on? Why are we so interested in Tiger’s infidelity; Sandra and Kate’s crumbling marriages; Kate Gosling’s dancing (the woman has 8 kids and no man; she’s got to work hard for her money!) and yet, another politician acting ‘inappropriately’ and ‘disappointing his family and constituents.’? What are we exposing about ourselves?
