I think it's a fine idea. The schools need money. The kids have already been marketed to and poisoned with soft drink machines right inside the schools (you can't get worse than that).
The schools could charge a lot for ad space on the school buses - who wouldn't want to be seen as a supporter of education.
The city buses in Minneapolis already have ads on them. What makes school buses any less?
(LOOK !!! I could support education, too !!!)

Let's cut to the chase and just tattoo babies with some sponsor company name...instead of Baby Joe or Jame - Baby Burger King and Baby Wells Fargo....
Kid #1: I go to Pepsi
Kid #2: Disney is better
If there's hope, its in our kids and if we're training our kids to be consumers...then there's no hope...values, morals, etc. are swapped for $'s....
Contact your legislator today! (I'm half serious...)
My friend is a bus driver. He had to write up a junior high school girl for "prolific promiscuity" last week. She was trying to blow boys on the bus. I don't think ads would have any effect on her. She was thrown off the bus anyway.
Te he!
Recently in a car line at a middle school a woman got a ticket because of the seat belt laws in Florida because her nephew unbuckled his belt to get his book bag before exiting the car....and the irony is all the kids on the buses....had no seatbelts ... things that make you go hmmm...
Reading is not fattening!
While I think there should be care taken in WHAT is advertised, I think it's a good idea over all. One school official said he'd never do it because of the chance of accidents. What chance? People see advertising on the side of city buses, semi's, and cars all the time without getting into an accident. Why would a school bus be any different?
And I would have no qualms about seeing ads on them.
By the way years ago when my husband interviewed for Disney/Pixar in California his interview was in a building shaped like Merlins hat... course if he had got the job, he wouldn't have been there very long as that section was all shut down later...but I still have have photos he took...
A Merlin's hat building - cool !!!
