"Eat food, mostly plants, not too much."
-Food expert Michael Pollan, on all anyone really needs to know about eating healthy. By "food" he means natural food, with as little processing as possible.

I have to read Pollan's stuff; I heard him interviewed on NPR and he seems very knowledgeable in a common sense way.
They asked him what should people eat, and he says, matter of factly, "Food."
Hahahahaha!
His point was that much of what passes for food these days is instead what he calls "EFS"s, for "Edible Food-like Substances", such as Twinkies, and various other highly processed foods.
He says food is alive, and therefore should eventually die. If it's been sitting in your cabinet for two years and it stays in the same condition, it probably shouldn't be considered real food.
I've always felt this society has made "what you should eat" WAY too complicated, and views such as his resonate.
If you listen to your body, it'll usually tell you what is good to put in it, and what's not...E
Enjoy!...E
However, I think most nutritionists now recognize that it's not good to consistently eat high amounts of meat, and that a more balanced approach, with more plants than meat, is healthier long term.
I like MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), and the UFC's Heavyweight Champion recently had severe, career-threatening intestinal problems, and his doctors told him his very high meat diet was a big factor in them.
But eat what you want, I say.
I'd rather be content and happy while I live, than live longer but not enjoy myself as much because I don't like what I'm eating :)
Like in most things, it's good to strive for a healthy (not to use a bad pun :) balance...E
