Once a predator of the deep
and now a captive in a tank-
should we expect its instincts to sleep?
Once a hunter of the sea
and now a plaything behind glass-
should it forget its blood need?
Teased to do tricks
with dead fish,
perhaps, it craved
a morsel more fresh.
What lurked in its brain?
For a clue, think on the killer
in its name.
But don't judge a carnivore
for primates practice
yet say they abhor
torture, genocide
and war.
