Nice Idea, but I don't think that works, all due respect to D'Amato :)
I actually think things CAN be that simple, in terms of living according to what you value and not letting money (the pursuit of it, lack of it, etc.) take over your life.
D'Amato was an interesting guy, an old-school boxing trainer who has lots of good quotes and perspectives.

And I doubt Cus ever did it either...
