In a surprising upset on Friday, Apolo Ohno was disqualified from the 500-meter speed skating competition, losing out on the silver medal, after a Canadian referee ruled he made illegal contact with a Canadian competitor Francois-Louis Tremblay. It was Ohno's final chance at winning another individual medal during the 2010 Winter Olympics. But later that night, Ohno helped his team win the bronze medal in the 5000-meter competition.
Ohno claims the contact was unintentional. Of the disqualification, he said, "There was no space to move up," Ohno continued, "I kept waiting and waiting and waiting and on the last corner I ran up on the Canadian guy. I put my hand up so I wouldn't run into him. There was just no space."
What did you think of Apolo Ohno being disqualified from the 500 meter? Do you think it was fair, or do you think the Canadian referee who made the call was biased?
