United States speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno captured his eighth career Olympic medal after winning the bronze in the 5000 relay Friday night at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Ohno, 27, of Seattle, Washington, held up eight fingers with a big smile following his final performance at this year's Olympic games.
After being disqualified in the 500, Ohno did anchor the bronze medal-winning 5,000 relay team to continue his reign as the most decorated short track skater and U.S. Winter Olympian, according to The Associated Press.
Later, Ohno tweeted, "Wow!!! 8!!!!! And to share it with the team makes it even more special! Yesss!! What an epic journey!!"
Meanwhile, Canada had plenty to cheer about after winning gold in the 500 thanks to a strong performance by Charles Hamelin, who also helped the 5,000 relay squad win Olympic gold.
On the women's side, China's Wang Meng tallied her third Olympic gold in the 1,000, while American Katherine Reutter earned a silver medal despite nearly overtaking Meng late in the race.
