Very strict airport security??

Have you experienced taking off your shoes before going through the metal detector in the airport entrance? I have actually experienced it a few times every time i travel by plane. I just wonder if airports in other places also do the same by also requiring passengers to take off their shoes before entering the metal detector in the entrance. I sometimes think that it is quite a hassle to have to take it off and put it on back after passing the metal detector. I know that they do it for the safety of all passengers but do you think it may be quite exaggerating to have something dangerous hidden inside your shoes?
What do you think about this?
Have you also experienced this too?
Are the airports in your place also the same?

Yes, I have. The reason they do this is because of the nut who carried C4 (a plastic explosive) in his shoe. He tried to blow up the plane. It doesn't take much to cause some major damage.

There you go! That is the answer, I do not fly anymore thus, am not affected yet, when answering jury duty they are as cautious!

Yep, I've had to take them off every time. Also have been pulled aside and had my bag contents all dumped out on tables to be searched. Sometimes I think this all over-kill on some domestic flights between small cities etc., and would be more prudent for over-seas or major hub flights. I dunno'.... they could at least provide more room for people to sit down and put our shoes back on though, LOL.

I like the idea that they are beginning to randomly swab hands and items with a special swab that will detect explosive residue. I do not know if this is instead of metal detectors, etch or in addition to them. One of the last times we flew a guy got really upset at having to take his shoes off, but it was because something was detected when he was scanned.

Yep, the airports are getting more and more stricter about security.....we went on a cruise right before Christmas and security was extra tight....hubby and son even had to go through 2 or 3 times and they got "frisked." I guess it's because of all of these terrorist attack attempts........now some airports are even installing new machines that can can one's entire body.

How i wish airports would always just have some bomb sniffing dogs so that we wont have to take off our shoes when we check in.
