            I expected JULIE & JULIA to be “lite” entertainment & unsatisfying like some processed foods, but it’s a delicious movie about real women Julie Powell & Julia Child.

            Julie Powell lives in Queens in the early 21st century.  She is unhappy with her job in a cubicle.  Her husband helps her create a blog on which to write about preparing all 500+ recipes in Julia Child’s MASTERING THE ART OF FRENCH COOKING in 365 days. 

            Movie includes Julia Child’s attempts in the 20th century to build a  meaningful life.   She & her husband live in Europe.   Making hats & playing bridge don’t interest Julia.  Because she loves to eat & a French cookbook written in English doesn’t exist she decides to write one. 

            Julie & Julia look like ordinary women.  In her apt. above a pizza parlor Julie wears jeans & tee shirts.  Julia wears comfortable pull-on pants.  

            Julia Child died in 2004.  Her kitchen is on display in a Washington, D.C. museum, & Julie Powell is no longer a secretary.  She’s a writer.
