Angela Martin has had it rough. This young mom of a developmentally disabled daughter, has made it to Hollywood Week three times on American Idol. In Season 7, she hit the stage shortly after the murder of her father. Later that year, her mother disappeared. Still, she went on, to Season 8 she was arrested for unpaid tickets and had to spend six days in jail since she couldn't pay the bail. She was dropped from the lineup that year.
This year, it was her third and final chance. Even the judges said it. She's a beautiful girl with a great voice. She's stronger, better and still they said no. Why? How could anyone get this far three times and still be turned away. Let's face it. American Idol isn't really about finding the best singer. It's about creating a star and she had star potential all the way.
I wish I had the money to hire her myself. I'd make that record and put her on tour because I bet, with a little help from the experts, Angela Martin would be a knock out.
The only good thing to come of all of this is that her appearance on the show got Shiners Hospital to take on her daughter and her huge stack of medical bills. At least Angela's daughter will gain from the experience, but how I wish Angela could, too.
Here's her audition:
