Lady Gaga swept the U.K.'s Brit Awards last night by taking three categories and dedicating her win in an emotional tribute to fashion designer and good friend, Alexander McQueen--he was found dead Thursday after apparently committing suicide.
The chameleonic singer won awards for best international female artist, best international breakthrough act and best international album for The Fame. She performed live at the awards ceremony while balancing a towering white wig on her dainty head, complete with lace veil and, of course, ornate lace eyebrows (what??).
She became quite teary and choked up as she paid tribute to McQueen. While accepting her first award, Gaga referred to the designer by the name Lee. "Thank you to Lee McQueen," Gaga choked, on the verge of a breakdown.
McQueen's iconic lobster-claw shoes were worn by Gaga in her Bad Romance video.
The Brit awards are the British equivalent of the Grammys, and Lily Allen and Jay-Z were also big winners.
